Most businesses do not have a shortage of messages.
They have a shortage of priorities.
Quality. Innovation. Service. Expertise. Trust. Flexibility. Partnership. Passion.
Every claim may be true.
But when they all receive equal importance, the audience is left to decide what the brand actually stands for.
A strong messaging system creates hierarchy:
One central value.
A small number of supporting ideas.
Clear evidence behind every claim.
Clarity does not come from saying less for the sake of it.
It comes from deciding what deserves to lead.

Dubai is one of the most ambitious and competitive markets in the world.

That creates an interesting brand problem.

Everyone wants to appear premium.

Everyone wants to appear innovative.

Everyone wants to be customer-centric.

When every business uses the same language, those words stop creating distinction.

Strong positioning requires a more difficult choice:

Which specific value can this organisation credibly own for this audience?

The brands that stand out are not necessarily the ones making the most noise.

They are the ones making the clearest decision.

A positioning statement is not strong because it sounds impressive in a workshop.

It is strong when it helps the organisation make choices.

Use this seven-part test:

Is it relevant to a clearly defined audience?

Does it create meaningful separation from competitors?

Can the organisation deliver it consistently?

Is there evidence behind the claim?

Can employees explain it without reading the strategy document?

Can customers experience it?

Does it help the business decide what to pursue—and what to refuse?

If the positioning cannot guide a decision, it may only be a description.

Save this framework for your next strategy review.

Being different is not a brand strategy.

A business can be different in ways nobody values.

A strange name. An unusual colour. A provocative campaign. A feature competitors do not offer.

Difference becomes strategically useful only when it improves the customer’s reason to choose.

The better question is not:

“What makes us different?”

It is:

“What can we do differently that creates greater value for the people we need to reach?”

That is where differentiation becomes commercially meaningful.

Where do you see brands confusing novelty with relevance?

The most visible part of a rebrand is usually the design.

The most important part often happens before anything is designed.

It is the moment the organisation decides:

What should we be known for?

Which audience matters most?

What value can we credibly own?

What must change, and what should be protected?

Those decisions create the criteria for everything that follows—from the name and message to the logo, colour, typography and experience.

Strong design does not decorate the strategy.

It makes the strategy visible.

Most brand problems do not begin in the design file.

They begin when the organisation loses clarity about who it serves, why it matters and which idea should lead.

Five warning signs:

1. Teams explain the business differently.
2. Customers see little difference beyond price.
3. Communication changes with every campaign.
4. The offer has evolved but the brand remains stuck in the past.
5. The identity looks polished but expresses no clear position.

A visual refresh may still be required.

But first, the business needs a decision about what the new identity is expected to represent.

Save this for the next time someone says, “We just need a better logo.”

A new logo can change how a business looks.

It cannot decide what the business stands for.

When customers do not understand the offer, teams describe the company differently and every campaign starts from zero, the problem is probably not the logo.

It is the strategy underneath it.

Before redesigning anything, ask:

Can we explain why customers should choose us?

Do our teams agree on what the brand represents?

Does our position give us somewhere meaningful to stand?

If those answers are unclear, changing the symbol may only make the confusion look better.

What do you think businesses misdiagnose most often: the logo, the message or the strategy?

Brands that start with a logo miss the point. Belief comes first. Define what you stand for and why it matters, then let design bring that meaning to life.

See how belief shapes the brands that last.

In branding, emotions are not an afterthought; they're the blueprint. Companies often falter by not deciding what feelings their brand should evoke before design begins. How can we redefine the narrative and become architects of emotion-driven branding?
