FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease) is a highly contagious viral disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals, such as:
• Cattle
• Buffalo
• Sheep
• Goats

Causes:

FMD is caused by the Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV), which has several serotypes. The virus spreads rapidly among animals through:
• Direct contact with infected animals
• Contaminated feed, water, equipment, or clothing
• Airborne transmission over short distances

Symptoms:
• High fever
• Blisters (vesicles) in the mouth, on the tongue, lips, and between the hooves
• Drooling
• Lameness or reluctance to move
• Loss of appetite
• Decreased milk production

Prevention:
• Vaccination of animals
• Quarantine of affected animals
• Disinfection of equipment and premises
• Restriction on the movement of animals during outbreaks

Note:

FMD is primarily an animal disease and not considered a risk to humans, though very rarely, mild infections can occur. However, its economic impact on agriculture and livestock trade is significant.
