We know, we know…. those little colored flags in the yard can be a real pain when you’re trying to get that perfect, clean mow. However, the City of Angola wants to remind everyone to keep those flags exactly where they are!
Here is why they need to stay put:
• Safety First: Those flags mark crucial underground utilities (gas, water, electric, and fiber). Mowing over them or pulling them out puts you and the community at risk.
• The 20-Day Rule: Once placed, these flags must remain in the ground for 20 days before they can be removed.
• It’s the Law: Per IC 8-1-26, removing or ignoring these markers isn't just a hassle—it’s a legal liability. If damage occurs because flags were moved or destroyed, you could be held at fault for repairs and fines.
Help us keep Angola running smoothly! If you see a flag, mow around it, not over it.

One Pass through the city will be made.
Crews will start in the Northeast quadrant of the city and work clockwise.
Brush must be at the curb by 7:00 am on the first Monday of the month.
Guidelines:
- Stack brush separately from yard/garden waste.
- Brush must be stacked in one direction along the curb.
- Piles must be no more than 4-ft wide, 4-ft high and 8-ft long.
*Do not stack brush close to or behind vehicles, mailboxes, utility poles/boxes, hydrants, signs, etc.

***If a contractor is hired, the contractor is responsible for removing brush and yard waste.
Note: During brush and yard waste pick-up for the month of May, the Street Department will do their best to collect remaining leaves as well. Please place leaves as close to the road as possible so that the leaf collectors are able to reach, but do NOT PLACE LEAVES IN THE ROAD.
