FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Governor’s Office Coordinates Essential Supply Delivery to Aunuʻu Amid Wharf Closure

Due to hazardous ocean conditions and the High Surf Warning, the Aunuʻu/Auasi Wharf has remained closed since June 10, and all local alias operators were advised to remove their vessels from the water for safety.

In response to requests from Aunuʻu residents for food and drinking water, the Office of the Governor, in coordination with the Department of Search & Rescue (DSAR) Marine Patrol Division, Department of Health, ASPA, and Department of Public Safety, organized the delivery of essential supplies to the island while the wharf remains closed. Two supply trips have already been completed, with a third supply trip soon to be on its way.

The supplies being transported to Aunuʻu include cases of chicken, boxes of bowl saimin, bags of rice, and cases of bottled water to help residents meet basic needs during the disruption in transportation access.

This coordinated effort is being carried out by personnel from the Office of the Governor, alongside DSAR Marine Patrol personnel, Department of Public Safety Commander Lima Togia and officers from the Fagaitua Substation, ASPA crew members, as well as a team from the Department of Health. Together, they are working to ensure the safe transport and delivery of supplies under challenging ocean conditions.

This initiative reflects the continued commitment of Governor P**aaliʻi Nikolao P**a and Lieutenant Governor Pulumataʻala Ae Ae Jr. to ensure that assistance and essential services reach all communities throughout American Samoa, especially during times of emergency.

We extend our appreciation to everyone involved in supporting the people of Aunuʻu during this period.

Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

[PICTORIAL] Samoana High School proudly marked the culmination of the 2025–2026 academic year with the commencement ceremony of 179 graduates, held this morning at 9:00 a.m. in the school gymnasium. The facility was filled with proud parents, families, spiritual leaders, friends, and members of the dedicated Samoana community, all gathered to honor the achievements of the graduating Class of 2026.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Honorable Governor P**aalii Nikolao P**a, joined by distinguished guests including Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata Radewagen, Rev. Faalau Umaga, Principal Jemaima Nafatali, Keynote Speaker Honorable Representative Malaeoletalu Meleisio Gurr, ASG Scholarship Board Representative Mrs. Donna Gurr, and a representative of the Parent‑Teacher Association.

The program commenced with an invocation delivered by Rev. Faalau Umaga, followed by welcoming remarks from Principal Jemaima Nafatali, who expressed deep pride in the graduating class and gratitude to the families and educators who supported them throughout their academic journey.

Governor P**aalii Nikolao P**a then delivered his special remarks, emphasizing the importance of sound decision‑making, resilience, and the courage to overcome challenges as graduates embark on the next chapter of their lives. He encouraged the students to carry forward the knowledge, values, and experiences gained during their years at Samoana High School, using them to build brighter futures for themselves, their families, and their community. The Governor extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates.

The ceremony continued with an inspiring keynote address from Honorable Representative Malaeoletalu Melesio Gurr, who spoke on the virtues of hard work, determination, and purposeful ambition. He reminded graduates that success is not measured solely by accomplishments, but by the perseverance and willpower to pursue one’s goals. Acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead, he urged each student to remain humble and to one day return home to share their success with the community that raised them.

A highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of the school’s highest academic achievers. Jesthel Dela Cruz, Asalemo Jr. Moananu, and Ariel Villanueva Jr. were honored as Class Valedictorians, while Blessing Maiava and Hans Malala II were named Class Salutatorians.

Principal Nafatali then formally presented the graduates to Director of Education Maefau Dr. Mary Taufetee, who confirmed the completion of all requirements for the 179 graduates of the Samoana High School Class of 2026. Dr. Taufetee extended her warmest congratulations and encouraged the graduates to pursue their future endeavors with confidence and purpose.
Following this, Mrs. Donna Gurr of the ASG Scholarship Board recognized students who will continue their education at institutions off‑island as well as those enrolling at the American Samoa Community College.

Principal Nafatali concluded the ceremony with closing remarks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the graduating class and offering her best wishes for the bright futures ahead. The program ended with a benediction by Rev. Faalau Umaga.

The American Samoa Government congratulates the Samoana High School Class of 2026 on their outstanding achievements and extends its best wishes as they embark on their next journey!
