Press Release: American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA)
The American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) has announced a full slate of major community events and tournaments to mark America’s 250th Independence Day on July 4th. Organizers say this year’s festivities will be “one for the books,” bringing families, athletes, and music lovers from across the islands.
The celebration will feature:
• Women’s Cricket Tournament
• The iconic Fautasi Race
• An International 7’s Rugby Tournament
• A live concert headlined by Stan Walker, with performances by Kennyon Brown and DJ Noiz.
• And end it with a FIREWORK AND DRONE SHOW
The week of events kicks o a new era of community engagement, aiming to foster unity and pride throughout American Samoa.
This past Saturday, May 30th, the 250th Women’s Cricket Tournament was launched in Vailoa. The ceremonial first ball was delivered by Niko Wendt, CEO of Reid Group, signifying the commencement of the tournament. The 250th Women’s Cricket Team are only set from the villages and consist of 19 teams;

“We have announced the prizes at three different meetings with all the team captains and team managers, increasing the amount each time,” said 250th Women’s Cricket Chairman, Director Mariana Timu-Faiai. “At the kickoff, we set the first prize at $18,000, the second prize at $15,000, the third prize at $13,000, and the fourth prize at $10,000. All other participating teams will each receive $7,000.”
Reid Group (GHC Reid & Company, Samoa Motors, Pago Motors, Vaimalu Puried Water, and Peter E. Reid Stevedoring) has joined forces with the and the American Samoa Government (ASG) as key partners for the Independence Day events.

Weather Update: US National Weather Service Pago Pago American Samoa
June 1 update:
Strong winds: Sustained winds up to 30 mph with stronger gusts.
Dangerous surf: Very large breaking waves are impacting south and east-facing shorelines, creating hazardous conditions along beaches and rockfaces.
Rip currents: Elevated surf height increases the risk of powerful rip currents, even where conditions initially appear calm.
Marine hazards: Small boats may experience difficult and dangerous conditions due to rough seas and strong winds.
Road impacts: Gusty winds can make driving more difficult, especially for trucks, vans, RVs, and other high-profile vehicles.
Possible power outages: Strong gusts may knock down branches or blow debris into power lines, causing isolated outages.

High Surf Warning – Dangerous breaking waves and shoreline conditions.
Small Craft Advisory – Hazardous conditions for smaller vessels.
Wind Advisory – Strong winds capable of causing travel difficulties and minor damage.
Timeline
Peak impacts are expected to last through tomorrow, with winds and surf slowly easing beginning tomorrow night. Breezy winds and rough seas are expected through the weekend, but surfs should decrease below warning levels and winds below advisory levels by Wednesday.
Recommended Actions
Stay well back from shorelines exposed to large surf. Avoid standing on rocks, jetties, or near wave-washed areas. If you're an inexperienced boater or operating a small vessel, postpone trips and remain in port. Secure loose outdoor items that could be blown around by the wind. Use extra caution when driving, particularly in exposed areas and if operating a high-profile vehicle.
