📚 Effective migration governance requires cooperation across borders and along entire migration routes, bringing together countries of origin, transit and destination.

📌 Regional Migration Dialogues are designed as informal, non-binding platforms for policy exchange, coordination, and cooperation. Supporting them is therefore an investment in governance infrastructure.

📚 This paper examines the four Dialogues facilitated by ICMPD – the Budapest, Prague, Rabat, and Khartoum Processes – and their role in the migration governance landscape.
📚 It explores their strategic value, how they sustain cooperation over time, and how continued support can strengthen their contribution, especially amid global change.

🌍 To commemorate the EU Anti-Trafficking Day, the Network of Anti-Trafficking Coordinators for Southeastern Europe (NATC-SEE) gathered in Bulgaria, under the theme “Survivors’ inclusion in anti-trafficking responses”.

🤝 Officials and delegates, including ICMPD’s Anti-Trafficking Team Lead Madis Vainomaa and Technical Specialist Ivanka Hainzl, underlined the value of survivor engagement in strengthening the development, implementation, and evaluation of anti-trafficking policies and measures.
🤝 Participants exchanged national experiences, explored different models of survivor participation, and identified challenges, safeguards, and practical solutions.

🌍 The revised EU Anti-Trafficking Directive introduces new opportunities to further strengthen victim protection through safe referral and cross-border cooperation.

📌 NATC-SEE is a platform for regional and transnational cooperation in addressing trafficking in human beings and sharing information, experience and best practices among the stakeholders

✍️ Nigeria has a dedicated anti-trafficking agency, a legal framework criminalising trafficking, and anti-trafficking content in the national school curriculum. Like many prevention systems, the gap isn't policy, but reach: protecting school-age children early, before recruitment and grooming take root.

📌 The School Anti-Trafficking Education and Advocacy Project (STEAP) prevents and combats human trafficking among school-age children in Nigeria, in the Edo, Delta, Ogun, Benue, and Enugu states.

🤝 STEAP is a four-year initiative funded by the Government of the Netherlands Rijksoverheid and implemented by ICMPD in close partnership with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (Naptip Nigeria).

✍️ Rhoda Dia Johnson, Project Manager, and Blessing Lass, Communication Officer for ICMPD Pan-Africa, highlight how Nigeria’s STEAP project brings schools, families, and trusted community organisations together to recognise warning signs, sustain efforts, and create safer learning environments.

18/10/2026

🌍 Today, on EU Anti-Trafficking Day, ICMPD reaffirms the critical role of cross-regional migration dialogues and route-based cooperation to connect countries of origin, transit, and destination for joint action along key migration routes.

📌 Whole-of-route cooperation and strong institutional capacities are crucial to prevent exploitation and trafficking, protect victims, and bring perpetrators to justice.

📌 The revised EU Anti-Trafficking Directive, now in its implementation phase since July 2026, strengthens the framework for combatting trafficking, cross-border cooperation, and supporting victims in the European Union and beyond.

🌍 ICMPD supports countries in developing comprehensive anti-trafficking strategies aligned with international and EU standards, strengthening institutional capacities, and advancing effective, coordinated responses at national and regional levels.
🌍 ICMPD serves as the Secretariat of the Network of Anti-Trafficking Coordinators in South-East Europe (NATC SEE), a regional platform that strengthens cooperation, enables the exchange of practices, and fosters coordinated responses to trafficking in human beings (THB).
