The widespread availability and misuse of small arms and light weapons fuel armed violence and insecurity worldwide. At the 38th Multinational Small Arms and Ammunition Group (MSAG) Symposium in Vienna, hosted by Austria’s Ministry of Defence, partners discussed practical ways to address these challenges through stronger physical security, effective stockpile management and international cooperation.
Our Chief of Office briefed the participants on UNODA’s ongoing activities and upcoming milestones on small arms and light weapons control and ammunition management, supporting efforts towards safer and more secure communities.

☢️ Nuclear-weapon-free zones (NWFZs) are a proven pillar of the international disarmament and non-proliferation architecture, building trust and enhancing regional and global security.
At “Beyond the RevCon: Leveraging Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones for Risk Reduction”, panelists discussed how each NWFZ reflects the unique security realities of its region and offers valuable lessons for advancing the goal of a world free of nuclear weapons.
UNODA Vienna Chief Rebecca Jovin highlighted the upcoming UN-mandated comprehensive study on existing and potential NWFZs and opportunities to strengthen their contribution to peace and security.

Speakers from FRS, UNOOSA , and ESPI will discuss opportunities and risks related to new developments in the space domain including ballistic missiles and space launch technologies.
