Women pushed to run in local elections | Sky News Australia 03/05/2021

Time for a Monday reality check.

Currently, only 27 per cent of City of Adelaide councillors are women.

And, across the cityโ€™s 178-year history, only three women have served as Lord Mayor.

Yep. Deep breaths, everyone.

Let's change that.

We spy a huge opportunity for you to shake up the game.

City of Adelaide will hold a supplementary election to fill an area councillor vacancy on Monday 26 July.

Nominations open on Thursday 27 May 2021.

If youโ€™re a current resident, business or property owner โ€“ and are current registered to vote in the City of Adelaide area โ€“ you can nominate. And, looking at those numbers, the more women who run, the better!

Women pushed to run in local elections | Sky News Australia The New South Wales local government elections are fast approaching and state leaders are hoping more women will throw their hat in the ring. In the state, women make up just 30 per cent of those in council. More than 100 councils across NSW will hold elections on Saturday, September 4.

Women are scared to enter politics because of their past. I was one of them | Georgie Purcell 06/04/2021

Since our launch, weโ€™ve spoken to incredible, smart, switched-on women, who would make brilliant representatives in our Parliament.

Except they've ruled out a political career based on one Facebook post when they were 14.

Or one photo they're not entirely proud of.

Or one mistake they've made.

As we like to say at Suffragette, pop a lantern on the (perceived) problem. Knowing and owning your experiences takes the heat out of them.

Trust us, as we've seen recently, men have no such concerns about themselves... ๐Ÿ˜’

Forget the same old research, this letter reveals everything you need to know about the Liberals' women problem 29/10/2020

"Few within the Liberal Party will openly talk about the "woman problem", fearing they'll be labelled a feminist, or worse, risk getting their pre-selectors' noses out of joint"

๐Ÿ“ข REAL TALK ๐Ÿ“ข

You can be a Liberal woman AND a feminist. You can Labor woman AND a feminist.

And proactively advocating for equal representation does not make you an unacceptable, inconvenient or difficult candidate for party preselection.

Together, we need to change up the conversation in branch meetings, during preselections and, ultimately, in party rooms.

Check out today's analysis on the importance of women's voices in policy-making and at the Cabinet table ๐Ÿ‘‡

There are thousands of very credible women across Australia fighting for equal rights | Emma Dawson 08/10/2020

"It may be news to the PM, but women have never achieved any rights equal to menโ€™s without a fight. There are thousands of very credible women across Australia, of all political stripes, who wonโ€™t give up that fight, for ourselves and our daughters โ€“ and every one of us votes." ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ

Regardless of our political colours, increasing women's representation on the parliamentary benches is vital.

Without a seat at the table, womenโ€™s voices will go unheard. The gendered issues that impede us will go unaddressed.

Vale Susan Ryan, pioneer Labor feminist who showed big, difficult policy changes can, and should, be made 30/09/2020

"Ryan showed, even on the most controversial issues, it can and should be done"

Last week, we lost a pioneer in women's representation. The Honourable Susan Ryan AO was the first women appointed to cabinet in a Labor Government, during the Hawke Government in 1983.

But that was only the beginning of her incredible achievements, which enabled crucial, long-term change for Australian women ๐Ÿ‘‡

She was a fighter, a trailblazer and a powerhouse.

Vale Susan. And thank you.
