Artlab is mourning the loss of our long-standing Director, Andrew Durham. For 18 years Andrew has led and supported us, through outstanding achievements and some challenging times.
He was an unfailingly warm and considerate man with a strong sense of justice, a talent for mentoring, and a deep and abiding interest in people and cultures.
We miss him.
Our thoughts are with his family.
Details of a memorial service on 25th January (which will be streamed live) will be advised next week.

✨ 167 years young!
Today we celebrate another Library birthday.
At 3pm in 1856, State Library Victoria (then known as the Melbourne Public Library) opened its doors for the very first time.
Upon opening, the Library was one of the first free public libraries in the world with a humble 3000 books in the collection.
While the Library has remained on the same two-acre allotment since 1856, the structure you see today is made up of around 24 individual buildings that have changed dramatically over the years.

If cultural heritage is damaged by natural disasters, accidents, or fires, then rapid salvage and first aid are required. Two members have helped the Cologne Emergency Association of Archives and Libraries & the Cologne Fire Brigade develop a roll-off container for such scenarios. Their work will be presented during an online talk in English and German on 20th Sept 2022. More details about the event and a link to register can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/23ybaeam
