We have been a bit quiet on social media the past couple months however plenty happening around the place.

Some of our most valued members graduated from the Adelaide University Roseworthy Campus last year and since then we have been on the hunt for some new members.

The brigade is happy to report that we have had 3 students show a keen interest and have joined us for training the last couple of months with 1 booked in for her Basic Firefighting Course next month πŸ”₯ πŸš’

Our brigade Captain Chris has also been up at the CFS State Training Centre in the Adelaide Hills as a Trainer on the Basic Firefighting Course last month.

Not to mention Truck repairs, Station Maintenance and preparing for brigade fundraisng at the conclusion of the current Fire Danager Season at the end of this month

A huge thank-you to everyone that has supported us this fire danger season, a full Recap and further news coming soon πŸ˜‰

Advice - REEVES PLAINS - Avoid Smoke

WARNING AREA

Reeves Plains, Lewiston township and Two Wells area in the Adelaide Plains, approximately 10 kilometers north west of Gawler.

ACTION

Smoke from REEVES PLAINS Fire is in the Lewiston township, Reeves Plains and Two Wells area(s).

Smoke can affect your health. You should stay informed and be aware of the health impacts of smoke on yourself and others.

Symptoms of exposure includes shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing, burning eyes, running nose, chest tightness, chest pain and dizziness or light-headedness.

If you or anyone in your care are having difficulty breathing, seek medical attention from your local GP. If your symptoms become severe, call 000.

More information will be provided by the CFS when it is available.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

Stay indoors as much as possible. Close windows, doors, and air vents (this may only assist with reduced exposure for hours or a few days, as outside air will eventually enter the home). Use appropriate air conditioner settings in the home and vehicles to prevent outside air coming in. Spend time in air-conditioned venues, like cinemas, shopping centres and libraries. Reduce indoor sources of air pollution, such as smoking, cooking with gas, burning candles or vacuum cleaning. Avoid vigorous outdoor activities, especially if you have asthma or other chronic lung or heart conditions. People with existing heart or lung conditions, people over 65 years of age, children 14 years and younger (especially those with asthma), pregnant and breastfeeding people and people with diabetes are more sensitive to the effects of breathing in smoke and should follow the treatment plan advised by their doctor.

Last Monday Night was a joint training with our neighbours from Woolsheds/Wasleys CFS Brigade. We headed over to the Ridley Mill at Pinkerton Plains to check out and test the fire systems they have in place.

Newer and bigger systems have been installed since the Pinery Fire in 2015 in which the Mill suffered significant damage and loss of production sheds.

This is important familiarisation training for both brigades incase we ever get responded to a fire at the site itself or nearby. Knowing what available resources and water is around in route to a fire is extremely valuable!

Big thank-you to the team at Ridley Mill for having us out last week and showing us around. You'll see here some before and after from the Pinery Fire πŸ”₯

Our team is looking forward to more joint trainings in the future πŸ™Œ

A few weeks ago for brigade training night we worked with our Neighbours at Gawler River & District Country Fire Service who invited us for a night of Defensive Fire Suppression Training.

We simulated a response to a Grass Fire πŸ”₯ with assets under threat making use of Gawler River Station for the purposes of the exercise and surrounding paddocks.

Two runs were conducted to give each brigade the opportunity to act as the first arriving appliance. A night full of hose lays and teamwork. Some good lessons learnt together and some great ideas for future training nights.

Big thanks to Gawler River CFS for the invite and we look forward to our next joint training in the coming months πŸ’ͺ ☺️

On Friday our brigade was responded to assist with a Grass & Haystack Fire at Stockport πŸ”₯

We joined mutiple other brigades from across Light Group, Wakefield Plans Group & Gilbert Group.

We spent the Friday night mostly monitoring conditions incase of breakouts in the unburnt paddock due to the high wind conditions forecasted. Also to provide relief for crews that had been there since the incident started.

The following morning we returned as the haystack continued to be pulled apart so it could be spread and extinguished. Plenty of mopping up and blacking out to be done across the fireground.

Great team effort by everyone involved, these jobs are long, messy and not a favourite for most firefighters but we where happy to come and support Hamley Bridge CFS brigade πŸš’πŸ”₯

Yesterday our brigade responded to a Grass Fire involving trees and scrub at Templers to support our neighbours at Roseworthy CFS.

As the second arriving CFS appliance our crews focused on the roadside scrub that was burning supporting the Farm Fire Units on scene while Roseworthy worked within the paddock to stop the forward rate of spread in the paddock protecting assets.

The air support from the bombers was a sight to see as always and very much appreciated!

This incident was supported by mutiple other appliances and brigades from across the Light Group aswell as our Light Group Officers supporting the Roseworthy CFS Incident Controller.

Amazing effort from absolutely everyone involved πŸ‘

Our brigade was paged to 3 incidents yesterday in the hot conditions, however able to take a stop call for 2 of them.

Stay safe out there everyone πŸ™ πŸ”₯ πŸš’
