SPIRITED NO MORE... FIND US NOW AT "AUSSIE HEART" What's in a name? When I started the Spirit of Australia party I wanted to use "Spirit of Australia", checked the register of parties and was delighted that the name was available. The "Spirit of Australia Party" has now changed its name to the "Aussie Heart" party. The reason for this is simple – although no other political party in Australia is registered under that name there is an aboriginal group that opened a party by the same name with an aim of promoting constitutional change and getting registered for the 2016 election. They did this before us. They were here first. To get registered with the Australian electoral commission you need 500 members and it seems they fall short. That doesn't mean that they are not planning on going on with It and I for one won't be starting a political party dedicated to a fair go for all by stealing someone else's name. We could race to get registered before them ...thereby "claiming" the name but that's now not how we are and will be operating. By polling some of the original members we have come up with "Aussie Heart" – it's catchy and it sums up what we are about rather nicely. Welcome to the Aussie Heart party – the real spirit of Australia is a fair go for all! The page – "Spirit of Australia party" will be posted no more and people linking in there will be directed to the "Aussie Heart" FB site and from there to our website. Please visit and like the "Aussie heart"Facebook site. Cheers, Adam

ADELAIDE CALLS TO BRING THEM HERE.

A crowd of over 400 people overflowed from the steps of Parliament house onto North Terrace today as Adelaide joined the Australian wide call to "bring them here".

In a powerful and moving ceremony Anthea Falkenberg read the names of the detainees on Manus and Nauru as members of the crowd wrote the names on hearts and moved forward to pin them up for all to see.

Speakers included Mark Reissen, director of Tabor college, Heather Carey the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Senator Sarah Hanson Young along with Ali Reid and Jen Long of Doctors for Refugees.

Messages of support were read out from Behrouz Boochani and Imam Suleiman of the Al Khalil Mosque.

The gathering resolved to do two things one – to meet again same time same place Saturday 29th of October. Two – to bring along lots of friends!

We are fondly hoping you too can make it Mr Dutton- we sure wouldn't want you to miss it- not now you've got the eyes of the world on us over this!

Love to see the rest of Australia join us on the 29th. How about it Aussie?

OH AND BY THE WAY...HAVE A HEART!

At this rally we are going to use hearts to symbolise those people in the offshore detention sites of Manus and Nauru, and we will be writing a refugee’s name on each one in recognition of their suffering. Please help contribute to this action by printing and cutting out a paper heart on coloured A3 paper and bringing it along on the day. DUTTON THE HUMAN RIGHTS CRIMINAL?
Even a preliminary examination by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague would be a major embarrassment for Australia which, so far, has been beyond embarrassment in the ruthless implementation of “border protection”. It would flag internationally a pariah status for a country that wantonly abuses human rights, particularly as there are policy options far more humane than the one preferred by successive governments.

Comparisons have been made with mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib, where US military personnel have been tried and convicted by courts martial. Dutton dismissed as “ridiculous” other comparisons with Nauru and Guantánamo Bay. The barrister and refugee advocate Julian Burnside QC told Guardian Australia that Dutton is right, but not in the way he imagines. As a condition to becoming a party to Rome statute and agreeing to the jurisdiction of the ICC, Australia introduced to the Commonwealth criminal code provisions relating to crimes against humanity, providing for a penalty of imprisonment of 25 years (see: 268.12 and 268.13). So our domestic law provides for such a crime with elements, such as: infliction of severe physical or mental pain or suffering which are not incidental to lawful sanctions; and the conduct is committed knowingly as part of a systemic attack on civilians. There are also provisions dealing with “imprisonment or other severe deprivation of liberty”.

The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions would be the prosecutor but only if the Attorney general (AG) agreed and any offences would have to be prosecuted in the name of the AG. On the face of it there is plenty of evidence of conduct that fits the ingredients prescribed in the criminal code.

But can anyone see the present AG, George Brandis, prosecuting Peter Dutton, a man who displays such a lack of human empathy, but then the next Attorney General Mark Dreyfus may well do so. Something to think about Messrs Dutton, Morrison, Abbott et al.

My thanks to Julie Grint for this post. Spirit of Australia – the real Aussie spirit is a fair go for all.

Spirit of Australia - THE MARCH FOR JUSTICE.

I'm just an ordinarily guy, a small business owner and most of all a proud Aussie. As a lawyer I've given 30 years of my working career to fighting for justice and the biggest injustice in this Country right now - by the proverbial country mile- is what's happening offshore in the government run concentration camps on Nauru and Manus Island.

As a proud Aussie I am beyond sad to state the horrible truth - that our government is actually torturing these poor people offshore and I for one will not put up with it any more.

I'm not saying to let all the refugees in without security checks but I am saying - for our children's sake-we have to treat these fellow human beings humanely, because as things stand it is OUR children who will bear the disgrace of what's going on hidden away there - in the same way that young Germans today live with the shame of what was done by their forefathers.

I don't want that for my Australia . I don't want my children to grow up in a country where human beings are abused for political gain.

It astonishes me that in my life time we have come to the point where our children will grow up actually expecting our politicians to lie to them - and yet we still vote for them.

After Xmas the Spirit of Australia party will be walking from Parliament house SA to Parliament House Canberra to raise awareness about the ongoing torture of men women and children offshore.

Aussies are good people and they have been lied to by the government. Pauline Hanson does not represent the spirit of Australia – the spirit of Australia is "a fair go for all" not paranoia, racism, division fear and hate.

If the average Australian knew what was really going on offshore – where the government has made it a crime for doctors, teachers and healthcare professionals to talk about what they see and hear – if the average Aussie knew what the government is trying so hard to cover up –those offshore prison camps would closedown overnight.

It is not the fault of seemingly indifferent Aussies or even those who in ignorance defend what is being done – they have been actively misled by successive governments which ought hang their heads in shame and which history will judge as having visited on us the greatest shame since the stolen generation.

The legacies of Howard, Rudd, Gillard, Abbott and Turnbull are all irrevocably stained by this disgrace.

The aim of the March for Justice will be to raise awareness and to arrive in Canberra in time for the opening of Parliament.

Thinking about having a milk carton regatta over the last couple of kilometres – might be nice to take some boats to Canberra !

Other ideas will be to collect a petition on the way, to fund raise for refugee related charity and to fund running candidates Australia wide at the next election . Also plans to set up a refugee embassy in Canberra - so that the interests of refugees can be kept prominently in mind- for all parliamentarians.

Would love to hear from interested parties, also - all ideas will be gratefully received.

I'm hoping that people can join me for some of the way – hoping to do about 30 km a day and it's feasible to join for a single day – namely get sponsorship and join in at any time for any distance. Love also to get people into building and bringing boats into Canberra!

So,if you are interested email us - C/[email protected]

Cheers –will keep you posted. Adam Richards for The Spirit of Australia Party.
