If we lived in Walkerville, I wonder if the decision would be different. A 14 story building on a piece of land as big as a tennis court in the middle of an area already heaving with the issues of social inequality and drug and alcohol dependence? This is bad town planning.

Council has worked cooperatively and positively with the Department of Human Service and the Police who are doing their best to accomodate people from remote areas who need to come to Adelaide for health and other reasons by providing services and assisting with journeys home but there is no secure place to stay before or after treatment.
Why was there no funding for a secure solution in the last state budget? These people are South Australians.
Lets get our prioirities right.

Hysteria about change. If we steered our policies and projects only by the loudest voices we would not have a tram, frome street bike way, north south bike way, street trees, the wetlands …. The process for developing and adapting change involves listening to everyone and balancing everyone’s needs.

We are developing an inter grated transport strategy. It’s been a really good process with lots of community and expert input. Have a read and tell us what you think.
🚲🚌 What does the future of transport in Adelaide look like?
In Stage 1 of our consultation, nearly 800 people shared their thoughts on how we move around the city. Here's what we heard loud and clear:
✅ A strong call to prioritise public transport, walking/wheeling, and cycling
✅ A desire for safer, healthier, more connected streets
✅ A need to rethink how we manage street space, including parking
✅ A push for better cycling infrastructure—especially east-west connections
✅ And concerns about the impacts of through-traffic in the city

Over the last two years, we have consulted with the community about how to fix the dilapidated facilities on the parklands the council owns, fairly and sustainably. We now have a set amount allocated in the budget each year, we have criteria for upgrading, a balanced policy, and will soon consider a new policy on leasing and licensing. Safety, women's sports, community access, sustainable design, and parklands footprint are now all factors in decision-making.
