BMC 245-F. Tray-Top or Flatbed. They were very hot to drive in summer made in England, the engine was inside the cab with only a thin metal housing with no insulation to stop the heat and sound from the engine, NO Air-Con in these days. The petrol engine would get that hot in summer the fuel near the engine would vaporizer and the engine would stop and you just had to sit there till the engine would cool down a bit.

This Red 1956 FORD Tipper was the only truck in the MYER fleet that was not painted with the MYER livery. It was used to cart Rubbish down to the local Wingfield Dump, it was not the normal day to day rubbish but special loads of junk like wood off cut from Myer’s own carpenters shop and the in-store display department.

This is one of Myer’s fleet BMC 245-F. Tray-Top or Flatbed. Ever year MYER would put on a big Christmas party for around two hundred needed children from around Adelaide, and MYER own display department would do up the truck as Father Christmas slay so Santa could arrive at the party and give the children a gift. They also keep the truck like this for the MYER Beverley Bulk Store Staff children Christmas party which was held near by. The Father Christmas up on the slay is a real person, and I use to drive it to the party like this on the suburban streets good fun. The bloke at the back with the cap is myself.
