We’re now well into day 3 of the 2026 AIATSIS Summit on the Gold Coast (Yugambeh Country).

Yesterday, on day 2, ILSC GCEO Joe Morrison delivered a keynote proposing a landmark initiative to explore the establishment of a Caring for Country Commissioner and a dedicated national body. He then facilitated a panel discussion with Ian Hamm, Suzanne Thompson, Barry Hunter, Rodney Dillon, and Richard Swain to further explore the concept.

Watch this space.

The ILSC exhibition booth has also been very busy throughout the Summit, and we welcome all summit-goers to come say hi.

The inaugural Indigenous Ranger Biosecurity Masterclass marks an important step forward in strengthening Australia’s frontline biosecurity capability.

Bringing together rangers from across the north and west of Australia, the program equips participants with advanced skills to detect, monitor and respond to biosecurity threats from invasive species to emerging pests and diseases.

Strong biosecurity systems are essential to protecting Australia’s environment, agriculture and communities. Indigenous rangers play an important role on the front line, monitoring vast remote areas where early detection is crucial to the protection of the ecosystem.

Professional development opportunities like this masterclass help build the skills, confidence and coordination needed to respond to biosecurity risks. They support a more resilient, proactive national system that protects Country, industries and communities into the future.
