2025 Home Sweet Habitat Workshop Wrap-Up

Our Home Sweet Habitat Children’s Workshop on Regenerative Design was a huge success!

The kids brought along incredible energy, enthusiasm, design skills, creative thinking, and enquiring minds. They embraced the activities in a collaborative, problem-solving way, and the outcomes they produced were not only original and well-considered but also deeply attuned to the many challenges and responsibilities that communities and individuals face.

Feedback from both kids and parents/guardians has been overwhelmingly positive — it’s clear the next generation is already thinking big about how we design places that give back to the world around us.

A huge thank you to our event partners and and for making this event possible, and to our wonderful volunteers who gave their time and energy to support the workshop.

We can’t wait to deliver another workshop during next year’s Nature Festival!

Archi Ed has been delighted to facilitate a series of workshops with Elizabeth Vale Primary School over the past 10 weeks.

As part of the Year 5/6 STEM curriculum, students were challenged to design a school campus located anywhere in the world. The program introduced students to fundamental architectural concepts while embedding themes of climate responsiveness, local material sourcing, social impact, and regenerative design. These ideas were framed through the lens of the Living Building Challenge principles.

Working in groups of four, students collaborated to define their design brief, explore functional relationships, develop scaled drawings, and create 3D models of their schools using Makers Empire. They then printed and proudly presented their final designs.

A huge thank you to the entire Archi Ed team—Valentina Baldizzone, Paul Cooksey, Brychan Asaris, and Ella Camporeale —for their support throughout this journey.

A continued thank you to Elizabeth Vale Primary School and Daniel Blacklock for their enthusiastic participation.

If you're interested in bringing an Archi Ed workshop to your school, we’d love to hear from you!

Meet Brychan, ArchiEd Chair!

Brychan ‘Brick’ Asaris is a Senior Architect at Russell and Yelland and the king of ArchiEd.

After taking over the role of chairperson at the start of 2023 he has been working hard to leverage his experience from being involved in the committee for over 7 years.

“My goal for ArchiEd is to get the word out, to show the massive potential it has and to let everyone know this amazing thing exists. As a committee we have taken a step back and re-evaluated what ArchiEd is and are targeting some new and exciting areas. We have some great initiatives coming up including CPDs, Resources aimed specifically for teachers and some amazing workshop collaborations”

Brychan understands the positive impact of bringing our profession to young people, having worked one on one with children with challenging learning needs as an SSO a number of years ago.

“ArchiEd is not only about talking to children about what Architects do, but its about equipping them with the confidence and language to shape their own environments.”

To the kids, Brychan also doesn’t mind going by the name ‘Brick’ – a name he picked up in high school but feels equally appropriate in his role with ArchiEd today.
