Our Story

Good news! Our reopening hours are being increased to 10-4pm Tuesdays to Saturdays from August 4th! Please be aware social distancing and a limit to the number of customers in the Bookshop at any one time remain in place.

If you are interested in volunteering at the bookshop - either in the Bookshop or behind the scenes with books or events please drop by the Bookshop to pick up a Volunteer application form or email [email protected] There are various roles which may suit your interests and/or availability.

Events:

Huge $1 Super Sidewalk Sales twice a year: The Bookshop colonizes the Hutt Street footpath with 1000s of books all for $1 or less. Includes Fiction & Non-fiction, CDs and DVDs. Only twice a year. This is the best second hand bookshop sale in Adelaide for range and price!

Next $1 Super Sidewalk Book Sale: Saturday, October TBA

Whether you have five minutes or an hour to spare, looking for new reading material or simply need a last minute present, drop by the shop, say hello and discover the treasure trove within. But be warned, you will be hooked by the bargains!

All stock is excellent quality at low prices. And with a high turnover rate, the choice of books is being constantly refreshed with new titles from vintage editions to recent releases. We offer a wide range of fiction and non-fiction titles which can be explored by category from Biography to Travel, Children's to Foreign Language, and Computing to Politics; to name only a few. The bookshop also stocks a selection of good quality textbooks for secondary and tertiary students, as well as an eclectic collection of vinyl records.

The Bookshop is entirely run by a committed and friendly team of volunteers with book sale proceeds supporting Oxfam Australia in fighting worldwide hunger, poverty and social injustice.

We welcome donations of books from the public during opening hours. We do not buy books. There is a temporary loading zone immediately in front of the bookshop which can be used to deliver your book donations if needed.
