Unearthing Ideas Online Unearthing Ideas | Shaping Our Future Together We all need to make a contribution to changing our world.

Ideas are the means; sharing experiences, understanding online and confidently succeeding is what makes them happen. In a rapidly changing world, labelled the โ€œage of conversationโ€, surrounded by unprecedented communication means, โ€˜Ideasโ€™ and their creative application will be the โ€˜new knowledgeโ€™. No longer will old models, based on knowledge acquisition and retention with predetermined outcomes in set patterns of application, be the only relevant ways of thinking and learning. Our challenge will be ongoing adaptation to what will beโ€ฆ

The Unearthing Ideas initiative (page) posts challenges to engage in the exploration and creation of ideas on a number of issues and topics that people can respond to, share and evolve. What we are interested in as much as final outcomes, is developing an understanding of the creative process which we hope the conversation will reveal. ~Ron Corso

In so doing the site builds peopleโ€™s ability to engage and create new ideas through having the confidence that they have a contribution to make. As such we take creativity and the ability to be creative out of the realm of the โ€˜specialistโ€™ and into the hands of everyone.

You wouldn't want to miss this if you didnt need to... WORLD SIGHT DAY ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Today is World Sight Day โ€” a reminder that our eyes deserve a little more attention than we sometimes give them.

As we get older, changes in our vision can be easy to dismiss as โ€œjust getting olderโ€. But some eye conditions have few or no early symptoms, which is why regular eye checks matter.

Cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease are among the conditions that can affect sight. The good news? Early detection and appropriate treatment can make a real difference โ€” and much vision loss is preventable or treatable.

So today, .

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Get your eyes checked regularly
๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Don't ignore changes in your vision
๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Protect your eyes from injury and the sun
๐Ÿ‘๏ธ And challenge the misconceptions that surround blindness and low vision.

Sight isn't simply about seeing.

It's independence. Connection. Work. Creativity. Reading. Driving. Recognising. Watching a sunset.

Look after your eyes. They're part of the story you're still becoming.

What happens when sporting history meets personal memory, a little mischief โ€” and a song or three?

We spent an evening with the Sporting History Club hearing stories that stretched from the 1920s to the present day, from cricket legends and Olympic memories to unexpected encounters, near misses and one rather memorable night in Bulgaria.

With special guest Glenn Butcher adding his own musical take on the sporting theme, it was an evening full of stories worth remembering.

In the spirit of Active Ageing Week, we thought weโ€™d skip the usual questions (that we've been asking of others this week) and go straight to the music โ€“ the first gig, the creative journey, the Adelaide scene, inspiration, influences and what comes next; sometimes you simply pick up a guitar, write a song and see where it takes you.

But we did sneak in this...

Q when you look at where you are today, what is a chapter of your life story that people might not expect just by looking at your age?

"That I only started writing songs and performing them within the last 10 years."

Glenn's artist origin story began with a simple challenge: in 2018, he decided to write a poem every day to get back into the habit of writing. Before long, some of those poems started asking for music.

He says, "I am inspired by John Prine, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, The Everly Brothers. Any time I hear a great song, by anyone, I am inspired to try and match the feeling it gives me, to do better every time I write a song."

[side note; Glenn has a gig at the Magill Club on 10.10.2026 7.30]

This is the final part of the GreyMatter International Day of Older Persons on 1 October campaign. Who are you becoming? We've enjoyed bringing it to you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
