REDUCING FLOOD RISK: Have you ever seen a detention basin in action? Detention basins are constructed to slow water flowing along creeklines during heavy rainfall events and reduce the risk of flooding downstream. As such, they are crucial for safe and effective stormwater management.
Within the City of Burnside the largest detention basin is the Glenside Detention Basin. As you can see in the comparison photos, this basin is very important to prevent flooding.
The Glenside Detention Basin has a capacity of 37 megalitres (37 million litres), which was increased from an initial capacity of 18 megalitres as part of the Brown Hill Keswick Creek Stormwater Project. This project is a collaborative effort between the City of Burnside, City of Adelaide, City of Mitcham, City of Unley and City of West Torrens to mitigate significant flood risks and safeguard properties across the catchment of Brown Hill and Keswick Creeks.

FROM THE ALPS TO BURNSIDE: When a Swiss researcher contacted the City of Burnside looking for information about a man named Klaus Mayer who had lived in Beaumont, Historical and Cultural Officer Hannah wasn’t expecting the trail to lead where it did.
What began as a unique enquiry for Hannah quickly became the discovery of an incredible story of one man's escape from N**i Germany.
