Athelstone CFS is a volunteer service, providing professional emergency services to the local community, other areas of Adelaide, interstate and internationally since 1961. Athelstone CFS responds to a broad range of incidents such as structure fires, bushfires, hazardous material incidents, road crash rescues, ground crew support to aerial firefighting aircraft, storm and flood damage and a range of other emergency incidents.

☕️ A very welcome addition to Athelstone CFS! 🚒

We’re incredibly grateful to the CFS Foundation and Police Credit Union for their generous donation of a Nespresso coffee machine to our station! 🙌

A good coffee goes a long way, especially after a training night, or a callout. We’re sure this machine will get plenty of use and keep our crews fuelled for whatever comes our way! ☕️🔥

🚒 Training | HAZMAT

This week, crews were responded to Rostrevor College for a HAZMAT training exercise.

For the purpose of the exercise, crews were faced with a simulated chemical reaction in the pool shed that had resulted in the release of chlorine gas. Crews worked through the incident to safely manage and neutralise the situation, before making the scene safe.

🧪 HAZMAT is one of our Brigade’s specialist capabilities, so regular training is essential to ensure our crews maintain their skills, knowledge and readiness to respond when it matters.

A great opportunity for crews to put their training into practice in a realistic scenario. 👨‍🚒🔥

🚒 A new Truck has arrived!

Tonight, Athelstone CFS took delivery of our brand-new 14 truck! 🎉

We’re incredibly excited to welcome the new truck to the brigade and can’t wait to get it out on the road and familiarise our members with everything it has to offer.A big thank you to everyone who has played a part in getting this appliance to Athelstone. We’re very grateful for the continued support of our brigade and our community. ❤️

🚒 Urban Training

It’s always a great opportunity when we get to train alongside our neighbouring Brigades! A big thank you to Burnside CFS for inviting our members along to Adelaide Station for a great night of urban firefighting training.

The session focused on:
🔹 Forced door entry techniques
🔹 Ladder handling
🔹 First-arrival urban attack

Training alongside other Brigades is a great way to share knowledge, build confidence and strengthen the skills we rely on when responding together.

AFAC 2026🔥

Some of our Athelstone CFS members were fortunate enough to attend Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) in Melbourne, joining emergency service personnel from across Australia, New Zealand and beyond.

AFAC was a fantastic opportunity to share experiences, collaborate with others, learn about new ideas and technologies and build valuable national networks.

We’re proud of our members for making the most of these opportunities and bringing their knowledge back to the brigade and local community. 🚒

Today was our station and truck maintenance day, with members lending a hand to clean our equipment and facilities 🚒🧽

Many hands make light work, and it was great to finish with a well-earned feed and a catch-up. Thanks to everyone who helped out!

🚒 Structure Fire Training 🚒

Last night’s training saw our crews respond to a simulated fire alarm at the station.

On arrival, crews were met with smoke issuing from a shed. Following a thorough size-up, firefighters made entry and located three casualties alongside a BBQ, which had been identified as the ignition source as part of the scenario.

The exercise provided an excellent opportunity for members to practise first-arriving procedures, dynamic risk assessment, search and rescue techniques, and fire control in a realistic environment.

Regular, realistic training like this helps ensure our members are well prepared to respond safely and effectively when the call comes.👏🚒

Wednesday night training 🔥
Tonight’s training saw our crews working through a range of practical scenarios to build and maintain their skills.

One crew focused on effective radio communications, while putting their creativity and teamwork to the test by using the road crash rescue equipment and tools to recreate an object using cribbing and only the hydraulic spreaders.

Meanwhile, the second crew were at Thorndon Park, where they practised casualty rescue and extraction techniques using the playground equipment to simulate real rescue scenarios.

The Athelstone CFS would like to thank
Burton Demolition for their support in providing access to soon to be demolished properties for training purposes.

These properties provide invaluable opportunities for our firefighters to train in a variety of realistic scenarios and environments, helping to build skills and confidence.

Smokey the Koala visited Thorndon Park on Sunday to say hello to the families of Athelstone CFS as they are unable to celebrate at Christmas because of the fire danger.

No fire danger so Smokey was relaxed. The atmosphere was warm and the families getting together made for a delightful afternoon.
