JFA Purple Orange is the social policy agency of the Julia Farr group. Instagram - @jfa_purple_orange Why a Purple Orange?

An orange is named for its colour - what you see is what you get. But what if the orange wasnโ€™t orange, but a different colour, say purple? It would make you pause, take a deeper look. Itโ€™s the same with people with disability. You need to look beyond what you think you see.

Will failure to fund independent advocacy in SA Budget end up costing us more? ๐Ÿค”

State Government funding for independent disability advocacy services has never been more important with planned cuts to the NDIS just around the corner. But, yet again, it is missing from the State Budget.

Independent disability advocacy services are critical to ensure people with disability are supported to access and navigate mainstream systems and avoid unnecessary hospitalisations or small issues escalating into crises, putting even more pressure on already overstretched and overwhelmed services.

โ€œAt best, people experience worse outcomes due to delays, and costs are simply shifted from one service system to another," Belle Owen, Interim Strategy Leader at JFA Purple Orange, said.

โ€œAt worst, people are left without a safe place to live, without essential supports for daily living and personal hygiene, and without access to critical, or even basic, healthcare. Itโ€™s not an exaggeration to say peopleโ€™s lives are put at risk.โ€

So, where is the funding?

Time is running out to have your say on NDIS cuts

The new NDIS Bill will fundamentally change the Scheme. Budget cuts mean there will be fewer participants and lower budgets for some supports. But itโ€™s unclear what alternative support options will be available or when.

Submissions to the Senate Inquiry close this Friday. You can lodge a submission at https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Community_Affairs/NDISFutureGenBill

Our friends at CYDA have created this helpful guide on how to make your voice heard https://cyda.org.au/advocacy/have-your-say-on-the-ndis-bill-2026/

Or you can contact your local MP โ€“ find their details here https://www.aph.gov.au/Senators_and_Members

Our policy team is currently seeking meetings with decision makers and drafting a submission to the Senate Inquiry.
