With so many issues currently impacting on the rights of people across Australia and here South Australia, an upcoming FREE seminar in Adelaide is set to unpack how we can fix wrongs with rights.

The Australian Human Rights Commission and the Equal Opportunity South Australia have joined forces to present The Answer Is Human Rights seminar on Thursday 25 June, 5:30pm – 7:00pm at the U City Function Centre, 43 Franklin Street, Adelaide.

With growing concerns around social cohesion, the right to peaceful protest, housing affordability, economic inequality, and the impact of climate change and digital technologies, the seminar will focus on how human rights can help us address these and other challenging issues.

Featuring a panel of leading local and national human rights advocates, it’s a not-to-be missed event for anyone who cares about keeping our democracy healthy and strong as well as ensuring Australia and South Australia are just, equal and inclusive places where everyone can feel safe and have opportunities to thrive.

Today marks the start of Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

This is an international commemoration of the LGBTQIA+ community, and recognition of their ongoing fight for equality, inclusion, and respect around the world.

Did you know that June was chosen to recognise the LGBTQIA+ community as it marks the uprising at the Stonewall Inn in New York City in June 1969. This event is widely understood to be the catalyst for the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement.

Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week. 👣🪃

This is a time for us to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories, and reflect on how each and every one of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This is exemplified by the theme for this year, 'All In'. It conveys that the journey towards reconciliation is active, not passive, and reconciliation is not possible without all of us getting involved.

Today is IDAHOBIT! 🏳️‍🌈 This stands for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Inters*x Discrimination and Transphobia.

South Australia has a proud history of LGBTIQA+ inclusion, becoming the first state in Australia to decriminalise homos*xuality. However, many LGBTQIA+ South Australians continue to face discrimination and unfair treatment within their communities.

The Equal Opportunity Act includes provisions which make it unlawful to discriminate against a person because of their s*x, s*xual orientation or gender identity.

Today is International Guide Dog Day! 🐾🦮

This day recognises the important work that guide dogs do in supporting people in our community achieve freedom and independence.

You can support Guide Dogs SA/NT today by making a donation here: https://www.guidedogsday.com.au/2026

The day also aims to raise awareness of the challenges that guide dog handlers still face in bringing their guide dogs to places and venues.

Under the Equal Opportunity Act, it is against the law to be refused entry or service because you have a guide dog.

Pictured is the Commissioner with two incredible guide dogs, at the World Sight Day celebration at Government House last year.

World Autism Awareness Day is an opportunity to celebrate neurodiversity and affirm the right of every person to be respected and proud of who they are.

At Equal Opportunity SA, we recognise the importance of ensuring autistic people have equal opportunity to participate in all areas of public life, free from discrimination.

Today is about more than awareness. It is about building understanding and taking meaningful action to create inclusive environments that support and empower autistic people to fully participate in our communities and workplaces, and to continue to enrich all of us.

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD) is observed on the 21st of March every year, as an opportunity to build awareness of racial discrimination and its impact, and focus on how we can address and prevent racial discrimination in our communities.

South Australia's Equal Opportunity Act makes it unlawful to discriminate against a person on the basis of their nationality, country of origin, colour or ancestry. Everyone in our diverse state deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, and fairness. We're all different, but we deserve equal respect. 🤝

Equal Opportunity SA's WE'RE EQUAL initiative helps organisations show that they have made a commitment to zero tolerance for discrimination. You can learn more about WE'RE EQUAL here 👉https://www.equalopportunity.sa.gov.au/equal

If you want to learn more about IDERD, the Australian Human Rights Commission has developed a series of resources about the history and significance of the day, and taking action against racism. 👉 https://humanrights.gov.au/resource-hub/by-resource-type/publications/race/international-day-for-the-elimination-of-racial-discrimination-2026?mc_cid=37391efbea&mc_eid=c299a0950f
