They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

At Adelaide Cemeteries, we see first hand how families are choosing to personalise farewells, particularly through music, to reflect the lives, values and stories of the people they love.
While traditional hymns and classical pieces remain deeply meaningful for many, others are embracing songs that reflect humour, personality and shared memories. Whether it’s a timeless ballad, a surprising favourite or something that simply makes people smile, music has become a powerful way to honour individuality and connection.
It was a pleasure for our CEO, Michael Robertson to join ABC Adelaide to talk about how funeral services are continuing to evolve in meaning and expression.
👇
Do you have a song you’d like played at your funeral? ❤️
Adelaide Cemeteries CEO Michael Robertson told 891 ABC Adelaide Breakfast with Sonya and Jules that funeral services have evolved over time, with more people incorporating personal tributes—particularly music—to reflect individual lives and stories.

“Traditionally, funeral services featured hymns and classical pieces. That remains meaningful for many families today, but we’re seeing the role of visual and audio storytelling really evolve beyond a single photo,” he said.
“The number one song played at funerals in Adelaide is Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’. Others that always bring a smile include ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ and Queen’s ‘Another One Bites the Dust’—a reflection of people’s sense of humour.”

Adelaide Cemeteries is creating a new garden to serve and support our diverse communities.🌼
South Australia is set to welcome its first dedicated Asian garden at Enfield Memorial Park, creating an inclusive and culturally respectful place for families to honour their loved ones for generations to come.
Today, we welcomed members of our community to Evergreen Community Precinct to unveil the preliminary plan.
Located within Enfield Memorial Park, this new development has been carefully planned to meet the needs of our growing multicultural communities, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Korean and Bhutanese families.
Designed with guidance from Feng Shui Master Edgar Lok Tin Yung, the space will promote balance, peace and positive energy for those who visit and those laid to rest.
The garden will offer a range of burial and cremation options, respect diverse cultural and faith traditions and remain open to people of all backgrounds. Inspired by traditional Asian design and guided by Feng Shui principles, this peaceful garden will provide a place of comfort, reflection and connection.
This project reflects our ongoing commitment to serving South Australia’s communities with care, dignity and respect, today and into the future.
A meaningful step forward in supporting cultural diversity and community wellbeing.
