The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Adelaide Region ⚠️ for DAMAGING WINDS 💨and LARGE HAILSTONES for parts of Onkaparinga, Yankalilla, Victor Harbor and Western Alexandrina council areas.

Issued at 6:17 pm CDT on Sunday 11 October 2026

A severe thunderstorm is approaching Port Willunga this evening.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:20 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones was detected near the Gulf waters off Port Willunga and the Gulf waters off Aldinga. This thunderstorm is moving towards the southeast. It is forecast to affect Mount Compass, Aldinga and Willunga by 6:50 pm and Goolwa, Port Elliot and Middleton by 7:20 pm.

Safety advice

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Move cars under cover or away from trees.

* Keep clear of fallen power lines.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while storms are nearby.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula and parts of the Mid North, Murraylands, North West Pastoral, Flinders and Upper South East districts.

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the North East Pastoral area today, Friday, 9 October 2026.

This is the first Total Fire Ban to be declared for the 2026-27 high-risk weather season.

This is a timely reminder to make sure you have downloaded or updated to the latest version of the Alert SA app, and to add or check your Watch Zones to ensure you are notified of incidents and warnings in areas important to you.

TOTAL FIRE BANS have been declared for Friday, 9 October 2026 in the following Fire Ban Districts:

North East Pastoral - Extreme

Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted.

The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow.

The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan.

Fire Danger Ratings
Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire.

What should you do
If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option.

In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council.

Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight.

Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions

The SA Country Fire Service is testing its warning system today, Wednesday, 16 September, ahead of the Fire Danger Season.

Most Alert SA users will not receive a notification, as test incidents and warnings are being placed in remote or offshore locations for internal system testing. If you do not receive a test notification, please do not be concerned.

If you do see a warning or notification marked "TEST ONLY", please disregard it. These messages are part of planned system testing; no action is required.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to ensure emergency warning systems are functioning as intended.

Reminder: Please be advised that today, Wednesday 16 September, CFS will be conducting a second round of testing of its warning system ahead of the upcoming Fire Danger Season.

Test warnings and incidents will be going live across our social media accounts, website and Alert SA. These test warnings will likely go unnoticed by the public and there is no action required from community members.

If you do see a test warning, please don’t be alarmed. These tests help ensure our emergency warning systems are working as they should.
