This week we’re in the South East of SA with the Parliament of South Australia Education team.

We’re visiting primary and high schools in Lameroo, Bordertown, Naracoorte and Millicent, with around 500 students taking part in the program across the week.

Connecting with regional schools is an important way to give young South Australians the opportunity to learn about the political process, ask questions, and understand the impact of their voice.

In the mock election that students get to participate in, 'Burger and Chips' has so far been the most popular #1 choice.

Last Friday, the we joined the History Trust of South Australia and Parliament of South Australia for 'Day of Democracy', a professional learning opportunity designed to support educators in teaching civics and citizenship.

Through interactive activities, discussions and practical resources, participants explored Australia’s democratic system, active citizenship and the electoral process, gaining valuable tools to take back to their classrooms.

For our Education Officer Paula, a key highlight was seeing educators engage with the content and one another throughout the day.

“It was fantastic to help build confidence in educators and their understanding of the electoral system. It was great to see the collaboration of attendees as they engaged in all of the activities throughout the program.”

By supporting educators, we can help build the knowledge, confidence and civic understanding of future generations of South Australians.

Thank you to our event partners and everyone who attended for making the day such a success.
