1,000 Hunter jobs. Secured.

1,000 good, blue-collar jobs at Tomago Aluminium are secure, providing certainty for workers, their families and communities across the Hunter.

New England FEC President Laura Hughes - New England said protecting major regional employers such as Tomago matters well beyond the factory gates.

“Good, secure jobs support families, local businesses and entire regional communities. Keeping major industry and manufacturing strong in regional NSW is something worth fighting for.”

As Clayton Barr MP, Member for Cessnock explains, securing Tomago is about protecting jobs today while backing the Hunter’s industrial future.

Labor backs workers. Labor backs regional industry. And Labor backs making things here in Australia.

MORE SPECIALIST CARE FOR NEW ENGLAND

Labor New England FEC welcomes the appointment of 12 senior medical professionals to Armidale and Inverell hospitals.

Armidale Hospital has secured 10 permanent, full-time staff specialists, while two local GP Visiting Medical Officers will soon begin working in Inverell Hospital’s emergency department.

The incoming doctors bring experience across obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, emergency medicine, general surgery, general medicine and gastroenterology.

Laura Hughes - New England, President of the New England FEC, welcomed the announcement.

“For too many people in our region, accessing specialist healthcare means long hours on the road, additional expense and time away from their families.

“These appointments will make a real difference by helping more people receive the care they need closer to home.

“Regional communities deserve reliable, high-quality health services. This is an important investment in the health and wellbeing of people across New England.”

The appointments are part of the Minns Labor Government’s continuing work to rebuild regional health services, recruit more health workers and strengthen access to care outside metropolitan areas.

🚨 Reminder: AusAlert Test Today 🚨

Today, Monday 27 July at 2:00pm, compatible mobile phones, tablets and smart watches across NSW will receive a test emergency alert as part of the national rollout of AusAlert.

When the test is sent, your device may:
📳 Vibrate
🔊 Play a loud siren-like sound for around 10 seconds
📱 Display a message confirming it is only a test

⚠️ If you or someone you know could be affected by the loud alert, or if it may compromise a personal safety plan, consider switching your device off or placing it in aeroplane mode before 2:00pm, and leave it off for at least one hour.

✅ This is only a test – there is no action required.

When AusAlert officially launches later this year, it will provide emergency warnings directly to compatible devices, helping keep our communities informed and safe during emergencies.

For more information and to hear what the alert sounds like, visit ausalert.gov.au.

Only Labor Governments deliver real change for everyday Australians.

The National Labor Conference is one of Australia’s oldest democratic institutions — bringing together rank and file delegates from across the country to help shape the future of our movement and our nation.

I was grateful to speak to Conference about securing the NDIS for future generations and building a more inclusive Australia.

The NDIS is a human rights achievement, fought for by the disability movement, and delivered by a Labor Government.

This Labor Government is working to ensure the NDIS remains a strong part of Australia’s social infrastructure – protecting the rights of people with disability and ensuring the NDIS is there for generations to come.

Thank you to Labor Enabled for your advocacy and for your work in passing this motion.

One Nation wants to send regional jobs offshore

Muswellbrook, Scone, Denman and Merriwa are part of the New England electorate. That means the future of manufacturing in the Hunter matters directly to our communities.

The NSW Labor Government is investing $12 billion to bring train manufacturing back to the Hunter after the former Liberal-National Government sent the work offshore.

The investment will establish a new manufacturing facility, create up to 780 jobs during construction and support around 550 ongoing jobs. It will also provide decades of skilled work building replacement trains for NSW.

This is an opportunity for local workers, apprentices, families and businesses across the Hunter and Upper Hunter, including communities within the New England electorate.

Yet One Nation’s candidate for the Hunter has questioned why NSW should manufacture the trains locally and suggested partnering with overseas companies instead.

The difference could not be clearer.

Labor is backing Australian manufacturing, skilled regional jobs and long-term investment in our communities.

One Nation appears prepared to send those jobs and opportunities offshore.

New England deserves secure regional jobs and a government willing to invest in our future.
