Researchers from The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Military and Emergency Services Health Australia (MESHA) together with Veterans SA are inviting you to participate in a research study aimed at understanding what matters most to former and current ADF personnel and their families. The study will explore whether available services are meeting your needs, challenges you may be facing and what additional support could help you and your family thrive.

Your insights will help Veterans SA shape future advocacy efforts and programs to support the veteran community in South Australia.

Today, we recognise and honour the strength, resilience and contribution of war widows and widowers.

We acknowledge that the impact of military service extends beyond those who serve, affecting loved ones who endure the lifelong impact of losing a spouse or partner through defence service.

First commemorated in South Australia in 2023, War Widows Day provides an opportunity to honour the invaluable contribution of war widows and widowers, while preserving the legacy of those they have lost.

🎁 The Veterans SA team recently attended the Edinburgh Formation Welfare Annual Christmas Treat - an event recognising the contributions of Australian Defence Force members, their families and those who support the RAAF Base Edinburgh community.

It was a great opportunity to connect with serving members and their families, hear about their experiences and acknowledge the important role they play in our community.

We also sponsored the petting zoo, helping to add a few extra smiles to the day for the children attending. 🐐

We look forward to continuing to support and connect with South Australia’s veteran and Defence community. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing the event together. 🤲

🕊️ Today marks the 25th anniversary of Australian service in Afghanistan (2001-2026).

We honour all Australians who served in Afghanistan and the Middle East Area of Operations in relation to Afghanistan, the families who supported them, and the coalition partners, including Afghan nationals, alongside whom Australians served.

We remember the Australians who lost their lives during, or as a result of, their service and acknowledge the lasting impacts of service on many veterans and their families.

Today and always, we recognise their service and sacrifice.

Veterans SA and Defence Teaming Centre are again partnering to offer a scholarship for one veteran to participate in the 2027 Defence Industry Leadership Program (DILP).

Delivered over nine months from March 2027, DILP combines workshops, executive-level mentoring and industry engagement to build participants’ capabilities in strategic leadership, collaboration and innovation.

October marks the 25th anniversary of Australian service in Afghanistan (2001-2026).

Veterans, serving ADF members, families and the wider community are invited to attend the RSL South Australia commemorative service:

📍 Adelaide Post Second World War Memorial, adjacent to SA National War Memorial on North Terrace
📅 Saturday 10 October 2026
🕓 4.00 pm

Together, we will recognise the service and sacrifices of all who served, and the families who supported them.

Last week, Veterans SA held its final and largest Career Connections event for 2026. 👏

The evening brought the veteran community together with 34 South Australian Veteran Employer Network (SAVEN) members, creating opportunities to network, explore career pathways, and build meaningful connections that could lead to future employment opportunities.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions and shared their experiences, and to our SAVEN members for making the evening so welcoming.

Career Connections is about more than meeting employers. It’s about building confidence, creating meaningful connections and helping the veteran community see what’s possible in their next chapter.

We can’t wait to see where the connections made on the night lead.
