Through Royalties for Regions, the Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) has received funding to upgrade the facilities at The Gap and Natural Bridge in Torndirrup National Park near Albany.
THE GAP, NATURAL BRIDGE AND CABLE BEACH EXPECTED SITE CLOSURES
Through Royalties for Regions, the Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) has received funding to upgrade the facilities at The Gap and Natural Bridge in Torndirrup National Park near Albany. Upgrades include new lookout structures at The Gap and the Natural Bridge, new site information, and a new pathway network.
The tender for construction works has been released on Tenders WA www.tenders.wa.gov.au and is expected to be awarded in April 2014 with construction anticipated from May 2014 for 6 months. The site which includes both The Gap and Natural Bridge will be closed to the public during construction. Cable Beach will also be closed due to public safety concerns. All other sites within the park will remain open.
For those local to Albany there are now 8 short films on the region's national parks shown on rotation at the Department of Parks and Wildlife office (120 Albany Highway, Albany) from 8-4:30 Monday to Friday. Books and other information is also available.
Tender documentation for the improvement project is currently being collated. The tender will be published on Tenders WA www.tenders.wa.gov.au . This is expected to be in mid/late January 2014. Businesses interested should register with Tenders WA.

Here is a short film of the recent large swells at The Gap. It was too windy and wet to spend too long out there and the swell was huge.
