Tonight our volunteers new and old conducted some fire extinguisher training. A good chance for those who have never used a fire extinguisher and a good refresher for those who haven't used one in a while. Everyone got involved and enjoyed the night. Thanks to Ian and Deryck for organising and running this training.

Thanks again to Bunnings Alice Springs who have jumped on board to support WOW day again this year. Possibly our biggest supporters of WOW day every year here in Alice Springs.

This WOW Day (20 May), we’re celebrating Ian (pictured far right), a Central Australia NTES volunteer who has spent 30 years showing up for communities across the Territory. Following in his father’s footsteps with the SES, Ian has travelled everywhere from the Tiwi Islands to Alpurrurulam and Kintore. As he puts it, he has seen more of the Territory in orange than for any other reason.

One moment that stands out is a search and rescue near Uluru, where a tourist was injured. It was technical, intense work, and exactly the kind of challenge Ian has spent years training for. Along the way, he has taken on every course he can and now passes that knowledge on to new volunteers.

Ask Ian why people should join and it is simple. The experiences, the training, and the people.

This Wear Orange Wednesday, we celebrate Ian and volunteers like him. If you have ever thought about getting involved, now is the time to step in and be part of it.

It was a honour to be a part of the ANZAC day services. As a unit we provided lighting to the dawn service, marched in the parade, layed a wreath and ran a water station at the top of ANZAC Hill, we will remember them Lest We Forget.

Yesterday we received a request for assistance from St John NT to assist with a casualty evacuation (CasVac) from Section 1 of the Larapinta Trail.

Upon arrival, it became clear that recent weather had impacted the track, with sections now overgrown, along with loose rocks and narrow areas making access more difficult and increasing the overall risk. Due to this, additional assistance was required to safely complete the task.

Crews completed a 6km round trip, working together with NT Police Force - Alice Springs and Southern and NTFRS Volunteer Brigade Alice Springs Inc. to carry out the CasVac safely, finishing late into the night.
