It’s the time of year when you will start to see increased fire activity in our region.

There will be a number of hazard reduction burns taking place and there will be lots of local residents conducting their own hazard reduction burns.

Please remember any fire greater than 2m in any direction will require a permit to light issued by our Fire warden.

Can I ask that if you see this post please go to our page and give us a follow to make sure you are up to date with any information we publish as we approach the fire season?

If you have already liked and follow our page please mention our page to your neighbours and we can all keep well informed this fire season.

Remember we are a volunteer organisation and we appreciate your support.

It’s time to start preparing your property for bushfires, which means some landholders may be carrying out burns of varying sizes.

Before you light up, make sure you know what you need to do 👇

🌧️ Wet weather update: it’s not just the crocs… 🐊

With the recent heavy rainfall across the region, we’re seeing localised flooding and large pools of standing water popping up in places you might not expect.
And while the jokes usually go straight to crocs 🐊 — they’re not the only things to be cautious of.

Floodwater can hide a whole range of less obvious (and far less photogenic) hazards, including:

⚠️ Debris like sharp metal, timber and broken glass
⚠️ Displaced rubbish and animal waste
⚠️ Contaminants from overflowing drains and sewage systems
⚠️ Bacteria in soil and water, including melioidosis

Even shallow-looking water can be risky — what you can’t see can still hurt you.

👉 Our advice:
• Avoid walking, driving or letting kids play in floodwater
• Wear protective footwear and gloves if you must be outside
• Wash thoroughly with soap and water if you come into contact
• Seek medical advice if you develop symptoms after exposure

Stay alert, stay informed, and let’s leave the water exploring to the wildlife.

💧🐊 When in doubt — stay out.

There is plenty of localised flooding in the area please stay safe and remember If it’s flooded, forget it.

We have seen footage of people driving through flood waters. It’s not worth the risk.

Tonight the Nome Rural Fire Brigade proudly attended the Bunnings Fairfield Christmas Family Fun Night! 🎄🚒

It was an incredible evening filled with community spirit, plenty of laughs, and lots of excited kids having a go on the fire hose. We always love getting out and connecting with our local community.

A massive shout-out to one of our members, Callum, for stepping in as Santa after the North Pole called him back for an urgent matter – it is his busiest time of year after all! 🎅🔥

As we head into the festive season, the Nome Rural Fire Brigade would like to remind everyone to stay safe, stay alert, and look after one another.

From our brigade to your family — have a safe and Merry Christmas! ❤️🎄🚒
