Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after shots were fired into a business in Altona North on 12 May.

Police allege shots were fired from a blue station wagon into a business on Borrack Square just after 5.30pm.

Luckily, no one was injured during the incident.

Police arrested a 32-year-old man at 5pm on Friday 29 May outside Broadmeadows Police Station, with the assistance of the Special Operations Group (SOG).

A vehicle related to the man was searched at the scene and investigators located an allegedly stolen sawn-off shotgun with cartridges and a high calibre revolver handgun with ammunition.

🚔 ILLEGALLY MODIFIED BIKES DETECTED 🚔

Today, Westgate Highway Patrol intercepted two young riders operating illegally modified mountain bikes on public roads.

One bike had been converted to electric power, while the other was fitted with a combustion engine. While officers acknowledged the impressive mechanical effort involved, these vehicles are not designed or approved for use on our roads.

On this occasion, both riders were issued official warnings, and their parents were relieved to avoid fines that could have exceeded $2,000.

⚠️ A reminder that riders who attempt to evade police may face significant penalties, including significant fines, vehicle impoundment or crushing.

Our concern is safety. Modified bicycles can reach speeds and operate in ways they were never designed for, increasing the risk of serious injury to riders and other road users.

Parents, guardians and friends - please keep an eye on the vehicles young people are riding and ensure they understand the road rules before heading out.

We would much rather have a conversation today than deliver bad news tomorrow.

🚸 Today’s School Safety location: Seaholme Primary School

In a speedy 35-minute session, 13 drivers were pulled over and had a chat with police about their enthusiastic use of the accelerator pedal. Apparently, some people still think school zones are part of the final lap of Bathurst. 🏎️💨
Fortunately, our newest recruit (a highly judgmental black swan 🦢) was on scene supervising operations and appeared very satisfied with every infringement issued. Rumour has it she was especially offended by anyone doing over 40.

And yes… we superimposed the police hat.
But the swan was 100% real. 😂

Remember:

The kids are trying to get to school safely… not audition for “Fast & Furious Altona: School Zone Drift.”

Slow down and save the racing for Mario Kart. 🚔

Sequel time 🎬

Hobsons Bay, you asked for follow-up schools — so we delivered in Laverton today.

Great news: no huge speeds today, meaning most drivers were actually obeying the school zone signs 👏

Unfortunately, one driver caught was our local bus driver 🚌💨 School zone limits apply to everyone.

If you’d like to nominate a school for a follow-up visit, let us know — we’re happy to keep the sequels coming 😉

Big thanks again to our school crossing supervisors for helping keep the young ones safe today.
