The Hobsons Bay SES team had a tough week last week.
While their volunteers were out in the heavy rain responding to calls and helping our community, rain was pouring into their own facility, causing damage to the building and equipment.
The SES team has worked tirelessly to make the case for upgrades to their current facility.
They have now received written notification from the Minister for Emergency Services that consideration of planning for those upgrades will not happen until 2030.
Are we really asking our SES volunteers to keep working in these conditions for another over a decade?
These are volunteers who always help when our community needs them most. They shouldn’t have to work in a facility that isn’t fit for purpose, let alone worry about their own equipment being damaged while they are out helping others.
I know how hard Michael, Mel and the entire Hobsons Bay SES team work for our community.
They deserve better.
Making sure our local SES has suitable facilities will be a priority for me.
Our volunteers turn up when we need them. We should turn up for them.
