I recently visited Ambury Regional Park. What used to be a sewage treatment area, has been rehabilitated into habitat for local wildlife.
The efforts include planting over 300,000 plants, 7 new beaches and 2 shell bank islands created. This is the Largest Coastal Rehabilitation project in New Zealand.
It was amazing to see many species we donโt have back in Australia, as well as several threatened species using the man made shell islands.
Pictures attached include a flock of threatened South Island Pied Oystercatchers using the shell island, and recent forest regeneration .

๐ฟ๐ Meet the ring-tailed lemur โ Madagascarโs most iconic primate! With their striking black-and-white striped tails (up to 2 feet long!), these curious creatures are impossible to miss. Unlike most primates, ring-tailed lemurs spend a lot of time on the ground, traveling in social groups called troops that can number over 20 individuals. ๐
Their tails arenโt just for balance โ they also use them for communication, especially during โstink fights,โ where males rub their tails with scent glands and waft the smell at rivals. ๐ฎ
Sadly, these beautiful animals are endangered due to habitat loss and hunting. ๐ Every photo of them is a reminder of the urgent need to protect Madagascarโs unique wildlife.
โจ Fun fact: Ring-tailed lemurs love sunbathing, often sitting upright with arms outstretched. ๐งโโ๏ธโ๏ธ

Yesterday was World Lizard Day ๐ฆ
I recently met Darren from Smiling Geckos Downunder, Darren is an amazing and very knowledgeable person, especially when it comes to Geckos!
We were chatting about the husbandry and keeping of Geckos, something I wasnโt familiar with at all.
With help from Darren, I now have a Smooth Knob-tailed Gecko. Highly recommended checking out Darrens page ๐ฆ

Siamangs are one of the coolest animals I have ever met! ๐
Siamangs are the largest Gibbon Species, and amazing acrobats! They have adapted to swing through treetops by having hook-like hands, and arms longer than their legs.
Siamangs are an endangered species and can be very protective of their territory, so I am grateful to have had this rare opportunity to enter their enclosure and encounter them up close

A few weeks ago, I met Rachel from the Mid South Coast Branch of WIRES
Rachel had a stall at the Narooma Markets, selling some goodies and educating the community on the amazing Wildlife found in the area.
Rachel cares for a lot of Birds, and said one of the branches biggest issues is Macropods and Wombats being hit by cars ๐. We also spoke about the Koalas from my branch.
Thankyou Rachel for all your hard efforts โบ๏ธ
If you ever visit the beautiful town of Narooma and the markets are on, keep an eye out for the WIRES Stall.

How cool is this!
Here is a Gang Gang Cockatoo that was rescued a few months ago, and released after a successful health check! ๐ฆ
Gang Gang Cockatoos are Endangered in Australia due to habitat loss and suitability, and have been decreasing in numbers for Decades. ๐
Fortunately, this male was rescued next to Smiths Creek Reserve, a beautiful reserve perfect for Gang Gang Cockatoos as well as many other threatened species. Smiths Creek Reserve has become known as a crucial ecosystem thanks to Les from Wild Things Of Smith's Creek. Now Council is working to make Smiths Creek a better place for Wildlife and visitors. ๐ณ๐ฟ
It is such a privilege to be a WIRES Volunteer, and to be able to help conserve Threatened species.
If you see any Wildlife injured or distressed, please contact WIRES

I recently visited Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters in Port Stephens ๐ฆ๐
This place isnโt just an aquarium โ itโs an interactive, hands-on marine life experience where you get to feed, touch, and learn about threatened ocean species ๐โจ
One of the species I met was the stunning Bluespotted Ribbontail Ray โ did you know their spots warn predators theyโre venomous? ๐ณ Theyโre super chill, but their tail packs a sting! Native to the Indo-Pacific, these rays love sandy bottoms and coral reefs. Suh a surreal experience ๐ If you're into ocean life or just want a cool experience, this place is a must. Learned so much and made memories Iโll never forget!

Jeffrey and Tinkerbell enjoying some Enrichment! ๐โค๏ธ
Jeffrey and Tinkerbell come out of their enclosures every few days to have a stretch, Today they decided to climb this Eucalyptus tree.
Jeffrey went right to the top and came back down after a few minutes, but Tinkerbell decided to explore the whole tree for half an hour.
Enrichment is very important for an Animals wellbeing, it keeps animals occupied and happy. This Eucalyptus Tree offers the snakes a new environment, new smells, and taller branches to climb!
