NSW SES Auburn Unit The Auburn Unit of the NSW State Emergency Service in Metro Zone It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 228 units located throughout New South Wales.

The NSW State Emergency Service (NSWSES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. The units comprise of approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm operations, the NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue,bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required doe to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters.The NSW SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, The NSW Rural Fire Service,the Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW.

⚠️ NOTICE: NSW SES advises that flood mitigation measures have been implemented at Accor Stadium ahead of this afternoon and toKnight’s NRL Grand Finals 🏈

We’ve tackled the pre-deployment of sandbags to prepare for the potential flood of passionate supporters, with emotions likely to be running high following their team’s result tonight.

Our crews tested their flood response during last night’s storm and have confirmed it’s ‘better than lego’ but recommend fans stay alert for any stampedes of supporters ‘flying the coop’ should their team end up defeated.

Conditions are expected to ease by Monday, although widespread debates regarding referee decisions may extend well into next week 🤔

This long weekend we’re expecting severe thunderstorms, large hail, heavy rainfall and damaging winds across parts of the state from this evening into Sunday.

Severe thunderstorms are possible across the Central West, South Coast, Illawarra and Sydney from today through to Sunday, before moving northeast early next week.

Thunderstorms could bring flash flooding, damaging winds, and large hail, with heavy rainfall reaching up to 100mm in some areas. Minor flooding is also possible across state river systems.

Residents in the forecast areas should be prepared and follow safety advice:

🔸Clear your drains and gutters
🔸Trim back overhanging trees or branches
🔸Tie down loose items
🔸If you come across a flooded road, steer clear and find an alternative route

Last week we were at the NSW SES Volunteers Association Retreat with NSW SES Parramatta Unit and Holroyd State Emergency Service (SES) participating in chainsaw training.

Thank you to the Volunteers Association for providing us with quality and fit for purpose space to ensure our teams got the most out of the course before storm season.

We've already seen very windy weather. Its time to prepare your homes for storm season.

Congratulations to our Local Commander Kathy! We hope that you are proud of everything you have achieved ✨️

Our two Emergency Service Medal recipients were presented with their medals at Government House this morning, following their recognition in the Australia Day and King’s Birthday Honours earlier this year 🎖️

The Emergency Service Medal is one of the highest honours awarded for service, and we are incredibly proud of Kathy Garansci and Kevin Jones. Their unwavering dedication and outstanding contribution make them truly deserving recipients.

Commissioner Mike Wassing also attended the ceremony to celebrate the special occasion and show his support for our award recipients.

While our members give so much to their communities without seeking recognition, moments like these provide a significant opportunity to acknowledge their exceptional service and the lasting impact they have made.
