Thinking about buying an electric fat bike?

Fat bikes are easy to spot thanks to their extra-wide tyres, but don't assume every electric fat bike is a legal e-bike.

Some models are capable of speeds and power levels that place them in the motorcycle category.

If that's the case, riders need:

✅ Registration
✅ A motorcycle licence or learner permit
✅ To be 18+

Check the rules before you buy: https://transport.vic.gov.au/road-and-active-transport/active-transport/bicycles/electric-bikes

Around 2.50am on Tuesday 13th October an Uber driver made a delivery in the Redan area. When returning to his vehicle he was assaulted by 2 males. The victim ran to the delivery address to seek refuge. The victim was located by the offenders and further assaulted and threatened with a weapon. Attempting to flee again, he was strangled and dragged outside the premise. A 17-year-old female occupant remained hiding throughout the ordeal. The victim suffered multiple injuries.

Friday 16th October Detectives from Ballarat CIU executed a warrant at the address. One of the offenders was located and arrested. Detectives located a knife and glove believed to be used by the offenders, the victim’s hat and other nexus evidence was seized. The offender has been charged with multiple offences and will appear at Court at a later date.
Detectives are still searching for the second offender.

Police are seeking assistance with this matter. Any information please report to crime stoppers.

For Sergeant Brendan Vann, serving his community is more than a job, it’s something he’s been doing for 30 years.

Brendan first joined the CFA as a 16-year-old volunteer before bringing two decades of leadership to Victoria Police as a frontline sergeant and Municipal Emergency Response Coordinator.

During the 2024 Bayindeen bushfire, Brendan fought alongside CFA crews, helped manage the evacuation centre, opened his own home to displaced families, and later returned to help farmers repair fences and care for livestock.

And his service doesn’t stop there.

From Blue Light school programs and youth camps to the Ballarat Soup Bus and Beaufort Blue Light Motorcycle Club, Brendan continues to give his time to those around him. His commitment has now been recognised with a Rotary Emergency Services Community Award, nominated by one of his colleagues.

Later this month, Brendan will head to Canberra to join fellow RESCA winners from across the nation at Government House.

A well-deserved recognition for a lifetime of putting service above self. 👏

🚨 Police Are Still Around, Even When You Think They're Not 🚨

Thinking about doing a burnout on a quiet country road because you think police won't be around? Think again.

Police recently conducted the operation, targeting hoon driving, burnouts and dangerous driving across Moorabool and Golden Plains.

During a recent overnight operation, Bannockburn and Meredith Police patrolled known hoon hotspots throughout the Golden Plains area. Officers located three vehicles gathered in an area known for hoon activity and, following enquiries, issued multiple penalty notices for poor driving behaviour.

The message is simple: just because you can't see police, doesn't mean police aren't there. Operations like these will continue, including overnight patrols targeting drivers who think they can get away with dangerous behaviour under the cover of darkness.

Burnouts and hoon driving put lives at risk and can result in significant fines, licence loss, vehicle impoundment and court action.

🚔 Don't risk your licence.
🚔 Don't risk your vehicle.
🚔 Don't risk someone's life.

Police will continue to patrol and target dangerous driving across Moorabool and Golden Plains, day and night.
