GOOD NEWS STORY: Charles' Fitness Journey

At McCallum, great outcomes start with understanding what's important to each person.

Over the past few months, Charles has been working towards his goal of becoming more active, supported by our 1:1 Daily Living Supports team.

Through regular visits to a local gym, exercise has become part of Charles' weekly routine and something he genuinely looks forward to.

We love nothing more than seeing the confidence, commitment and enthusiasm that comes from pursuing a personal goal with the right support in place.

Every goal looks different. Whether it's improving health and wellbeing, building new skills, increasing independence or getting involved in the community, we're proud to work alongside people to achieve what's important to them.

McCallum offers:

McCallum - Listening to Lived Experience, Shaping Better Services

At McCallum, we know that the people who use, support and deliver our services have valuable insights that help us grow and improve.

Last Friday, during Carers Week, we held the first meeting of our new Stakeholder Advisory Group, bringing together participants, family members, carers and McCallum team members from across the organisation.

With members attending both in person and virtually, the group represents every area of McCallum's business and provides an important forum for sharing ideas, experiences and feedback. By bringing lived experience to the table, we can better understand what matters most to the people we support and ensure those perspectives help guide our future planning and decision-making.

The Stakeholder Advisory Group is one of the many ways McCallum is strengthening its commitment to quality, inclusion and continuous improvement. Because the best services are shaped not only by expertise, but by listening to the voices of those who experience them every day.

Thank you to our inaugural members for their willingness to contribute, challenge and help shape the future of McCallum.

The photo shows some of our members gathered in the McCallum Board Room, but that's only part of the story, with additional Stakeholder Advisory Group members joining the conversation online.

GOOD NEWS STORY! What a fantastic day out for Tanya!

With a huge smile from start to finish, Tanya enjoyed an unforgettable adventure at the Royal Melbourne Show alongside her support worker.

From meeting the animals in the nursery and enjoying the carnival atmosphere to taking home some exciting showbags, the day was filled with fun, laughter and great memories.

To make the experience even more special, Tanya caught the train to and from the event, adding an extra sense of independence and adventure to an already wonderful day.

Moments like these are what Community Access is all about - supporting people to explore their interests, connect with their community and enjoy meaningful experiences that bring joy.

Great spend time with students participating in the Live, Learn and Connect program at the Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre.⭐️

Every Tuesday morning throughout October, students aged 19-24 are building valuable skills and confidence to become more job ready. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»

It was a pleasure to speak with the group about preparing for the workforce, developing workplace skills, and the opportunities that come from staying connected and engaged in the community. ❀️

Thank you to the Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre for creating such a positive and supportive program that helps young people learn, grow and prepare for their future. 🏑

NATIONAL CARERS WEEK - 11th - 17th of October.

At McCallum, we see firsthand the incredible contribution carers make every day.

Carers are often the quiet champions behind the scenes, supporting people with disability to build skills, pursue employment, connect with their communities and achieve their goals. As the disability sector continues to evolve, carers remain a constant source of advocacy, guidance and support.

This National Carers Week, we acknowledge and celebrate the dedication, resilience and care that carers provide to their families, friends and communities. We also recognise the importance of supporting carers to look after their own wellbeing.

We're proud to stand alongside organisations such as Pinarc Disability Support and Ballarat Specialist School in recognising the vital role carers play and advocating for the support they need to continue caring with confidence.

Thank you to all carers for the difference you make each and every day. πŸ’™

GOOD NEWS STORY. Teamwork in Action

We absolutely love this photo of Matthew and support worker Jasmine at our recent Footy Day!

Behind every great photo is a great story.

Our Community Access team carefully planned and coordinated support to help Matthew attend the event, giving him the opportunity to enjoy something different from his usual routine.

Matthew embraced the day, enthusiastically participating in activities and making the most of every opportunity. His positive attitude even earned him a prize from for his enthusiasm and participation!

It's a wonderful example of how an engaged and dedicated support provider can create meaningful opportunities and help people achieve their goals.
