Grand Strzelecki Track 93km of hiking tracks around Tarra Bulga NP and linked to Morwell NP. Paid and free camping. Incorporation No. A0054706S

Home to the tallest flowering plants and hardwood trees on earth, the majestic Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus Regnans), is the Strzelecki Ranges in South Gippsland, Victoria which are like no other place. The Strzelecki Ranges provide an enormous wealth of biodiversity and scenic values which, until the Grand Strzelecki Track was built, were largely inaccessible to the public except for two beautiful National Parks; Morwell and Tarra-Bulga. These parks charm visitors with pristine rainforest and tall eucalypt forests second to none and a proliferation of plant and animal life such as the South Gippsland Koala, which is the only genetically intact remnant of the original population remaining in Victoria. The Grand Strzelecki Track links these parks and opens up many natural treasures not seen within the parks including endangered ecosystems, stunning views, waterfalls and much more. If also offers glimpses into the amazing and sometimes tragic settlement and sawmilling history of the Strzelecki Ranges, as well as recent conservation initiatives to preserve our natural and cultural heritage. Located just 2-1/2 hours drive east of Melbourne and accessible from both the Princes and South Gippsland Highways, the Grand Strzelecki Track has something for everyone whatever you level of fitness or experience. Approximately 110 km of track network provides a challenging but rewarding 2 day Park-to-Park experience or 3 moderate to easy loop walks of 1 to 2 days each, radiating from Tarra-Bulga National Park. Alternatively, take 5 to 7 days to walk the complete track and experience the full diversity of scenery these ranges have to offer. Maps can be purchased at www.grandstrzeleckitrack.org.au

One of our committee members, Mitchell Stone (Mitch), has recently renewed his interest in website administration since his high school days. He showed that he was keen to learn and give it a go, such that we gave him the task to give our website a new feel, a better flow and to declutter. He has made it much easier to read.

Mitch has also accepted the ongoing role as our website administrator, so we look forward to having a well managed and maintained website.

This Saturday, the 19th of September, the Friends of Tarra-Bulga National Park are looking for volunteers to help remove tree guards at a site on Grand Ridge Road near Balook. It’s a practical job that will make a real difference on the ground — and they would love a few extra hands to help get it done.

If you’re able to join them, please email [email protected]. They are keen to have some real people involved — no AI helpers this time.

Meet at the Tarra-Bulga National Park Visitor Centre car park at 9.30 am. Ask if not sure of location.

No special experience is needed — just wear sturdy gear and bring what you need to be comfortable outdoors.

What to bring:

Safety boots
Gloves
Safety glasses
Wet weather gear
Food
Drink bottle
Tools provided.

Thanks in advance — it should be a useful morning, and many hands will make a big difference.
