Just about every mobile phone in Australia...

And some smart watches and tablets too - will vibrate, play a loud siren-like sound and display an AusAlert critical alert for roughly 10 seconds on Monday 27 July 2026 at 12 noon AWST.

In the future, AusAlert may be used for a range of emergencies, including bushfires, serious public safety incidents, animal or plant diseases and pandemics.

This alert is not sent through the Emergency WA app or any other emergency services app. AusAlert is a new federal government initiative that forms part of Australia's nationally operated emergency alert system, designed to deliver warnings during serious emergencies.

📣Skillset Spotlight: Urban Search and Rescue (USAR)📣

Did you know that one of the specialist skill sets within our unit is Urban Search and Rescue? Our SES volunteers are trained to support incidents involving structural collapse, so that if the need arises we are ready to support the community.

To ensure our team is prepared for USAR incidents, our volunteers routinely practice:
🔸Working safely over unstable footing and navigating hazardous environments
🔸Communicating clearly under pressure
🔸Conducting primary searches for missing persons
🔸Moving casualties safely over debris
🔸Using personal protective equipment confidently
🔸Building the mental and physical preparedness needed for these challenging situations

If you’d like to learn more about what it takes to be an SES volunteer, reach out to [email protected] for more information.

And of course a huge thank you to our Bayswater State Emergency Service volunteers who supported the event - looks like we have a new recruit joining the team!

From Beechboro to Broome and beyond, you'll find the Bayswater team anywhere we're needed. Now that Narelle's made herself scarce, we're up Exmouth way, solving problems with teamwork, enthusiasm and chainsaws. Mostly chainsaws.

Happy International Volunteer Day!

December 5th gives us the opportunity to recognise those who contribute their time, skills, and goodwill in servicing and supporting others. Volunteering is an important aspect of nurturing unity, resilience and respect within communities.

To our own crew, and the 26,000 wonderful emergency service volunteers in WA who we operate beside; a heartfelt thank you for your compassion and helping hands throughout the year. 🧡
