Something legendary is coming back.

Thirty years ago, HotHouse Theatre helped create a place where comedy, cabaret, music and mayhem could collide.

The Galah Bar became part of the cultural fabric of the region—a place to laugh, gather, perform and generally carry on.

In 2027, it’s HotHouse's 30th Birthday and we're launching ourAus Art day campaign to raise funds to bring back the iconic Galah Bar. The parent company of HotHouse, the Murray River Performing Group and the original Galah Bar, was a comedy and cabaret event which launched the careers of many Australian comedians in the 70’s & 80’s.

Give the Galah a second act!

Funds raised will help HotHouse programme a weekend of cheeky fun, and maybe some new trouble in Spring 2027 ✨

Creative Australia will match it dollar-for-dollar up to $5k

$10 becomes $20.

Is our Old Stone Hall your new office and studio 📸 ?

We’ve recently had a studio and desk space open up in the Old Stone Hall at the top of the Beechworth town strip, and we’re looking for the perfect new tenant to make it their own!

The space is full of natural light, gorgeous in every season, full of flexibility thanks to our huge hall space and separate office room, and aesthetically, well… impeccable. This opportunity is ideal for a 1-person freelancer, consultant or artist who wants a ready-made office and studio space (mostly) to themselves, with the following facilities included as part of your hire:

* Full desk space with printer and high-speed internet
* Full kitchen
* Accessible toilet
* Use of the full hall space, with PA, stage, chairs, trestles and exhibition boards available to use and move around as needed
* Beautiful outdoor courtyard and larger outdoor field for wild thinking or picnic lunch meetings

The space will be all yours at least 1-2 days a week, and other times shared with 1 other photographer, Erin, who works onsite half the week - plus of course our monthly music shows in the evenings, plus the odd exhibition or meeting.

Where: The Old Stone Hall - 7 Church St, Beechworth ✨

Who: Artists, freelancers, writers, photographers and crafters - anyone needing a dedicated large, quiet, flexible space to explore their work, achieve true focus and still feel the buzz of the town at your doorstep.

Indigo Live music series announces Hana Stretton and the Vernon Spring (UK) FRIDAY DEC 11 ✨ so lucky to be working with Jet Black Cat Music again - they have curated a beautiful show for us for December.

Join us for an evening with Hana Stretton & The Vernon Spring (UK), live at the Oregon Hall in Beechworth. A double headline show sure to take your breath away and make you a little weak in the knees. gothic hall, live music reimagined, resident piano shining again - we’ll all be melting into the 100 year plus floorboards with friends by our sides!

Hana Stretton, is an accomplished Australian-British multi-instrumentalist, songwriter & producer. Hana performing songs from her latest album, tiarn (2026), a collection of beautiful arrangements of classical and electronic sounds sure to move us.

"I hear an artist who has entered completely into the stream where creation originates […] Hana Stretton has truly recorded the deep flourishing sound of a quiet listening mind in full blossom.” – Phil Elvrum (Mount Eerie)

The Vernon Spring, the recording project of North London-born musician Sam Beste, whose journey traces various arcs across jazz, soul, ambient, and songwriting modes. The Vernon Spring: on a debut Australian tour brings ethereal piano work layered with emotive vocals and subtle electronics. Beste's dedication and talent placed him in Amy Winehouse’s orbit, whom he accompanied as her live pianist for the majority of her ascendent career, this path led Beste to other significant and diverse collaborations, including work with Gabriels, Kendrick Lamar producer Sounwave, Beth Orton and Kano ✨
