From Neapolitan folk to Brazilian rhythms and Sufi traditions, this year’s artists are bringing music from across the world.

Bellingen Shire Council asks for the community's understanding and consideration as Mayor Steve Allan takes time away from his Mayoral duties following the passing of his beloved wife, Wendy.

This is an incredibly difficult time for Steve and his family, and Council's priority is ensuring they have the privacy and space they need to grieve and support one another.

Deputy Mayor, Cr Graeme Shephard will assist with Mayoral responsibilities during Steve's absence, ensuring Council business continues as usual.

We recognise that many in our community will wish to express their condolences and support. We respectfully ask that Steve and his family be given the time and space they need, and that their privacy be respected during this period.

Council appreciates the understanding and sensitivity of the community and media at this time.

Council is seeking community feedback on a proposed $100 fixed fee for the installation of new memorial plaques at the Urunga Boardwalk. The fee would cover administration, assessment and installation costs, with all plaques installed by Council.

✅ Existing plaques removed before boardwalk construction will be exempt from the fee and reinstalled as part of Stage 4 works.

📢Community Notice: Potholes📢

With ongoing rainfall and more wet weather forecast over the coming months, you may notice an increase in potholes across the Shire. We understand the inconvenience they can cause and appreciate your patience during this challenging period.

Prolonged wet weather has affected our ability to carry out repairs as quickly as we would like. Rainwater can also cause new potholes to form, making road maintenance more difficult.

The safety of our community and staff remains our highest priority.

Please be assured that our crews are working hard to inspect and repair reported hazards as soon as conditions allow, with prioritisation focused on immediate safety issues and dangerous potholes.

The temporary replacement of Summervilles Road Bridge is now complete. ✅

The existing bridge was deteriorating and has been replaced with a temporary truss bridge, improving safety and reliability for road users.

The new bridge has also removed the previous 10-tonne load limit, making access easier for vehicles and the local community.

🔨 The temporary bridge will remain in place until a permanent bridge replacement is constructed as part of the Summervilles and Gordonville Roads Upgrade Project.

👏 Thank you to our team and contractors, who completed the work in just 10 days. A fantastic effort!

We'd also like to thank the community for their patience while this work was completed.

With climatic impacts to our native flowers and fruits, there are currently increased Flying-Fox illness and deaths being reported across the Bellingen Shire and throughout NSW.

During this time, you may see Flying Foxes in places you usually don't as they search for food. It's important to remember to:

🔹 Never touch or handle a bat if you are not vaccinated or appropriately trained, and keep pets and children away

🔹 If the Flying-fox is showing signs of illness, dehydration, is injured or carrying a pup, please call WIRES on 1300 094 737

🔹 Keep in mind WIRES are inundated with calls, so your wait time will be longer than usual

🔹If you find a dead bat on private property, please follow NSW Government’s guidance on safe disposal of the animal:

https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/topics/animals-and-plants/native-animals/native-animal-facts/land-mammals/flying-foxes/rescuing-and-rehabilitating-flying-foxes

🔹If you find a dead bat on council land you can contact us via: [email protected] or (02) 6655 7300

Times like these show us the importance of restoration projects and protecting critical Flying-fox habitat. You can find out more about our Bellingen Island project here:
