NSW SES Bellingen Unit The NSW SES Bellingen Unit is the local combat agency for Storms, Floods & Tsunamis

NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. We are a volunteer-based organisation that provides emergency assistance to the people of NSW 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. It is the approximately 9,000 volunteers across the state that make this possible. NSW SES Volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them many different skills, interests and backgrounds. They are united by the purpose of supporting their communities in times of need. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm emergencies, NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes:
🚘 Road accident rescue
🧗 Vertical rescue
🥾 Bush search and rescue
👮‍♀️ Evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of NSW. The organisations trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. NSW SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW.

This morning, two Bellingen SES members took to the water for a flood boat training session.

The session provided an opportunity to practise boat handling, manoeuvring and safe operating procedures while continuing to develop and maintain important skills.

🪚🌳 Chainsaw Training Weekend

Over the weekend, members from NSW SES Bellingen Unit and surrounding units came together to complete a chainsaw course.

The course gave members the opportunity to build their skills in safe chainsaw operation, cutting techniques, hazard identification and working together as a team.

Practical training like this is important for preparing our volunteers to safely respond to fallen trees and storm damage when our communities need assistance.

It was a great weekend of hands-on training, teamwork and learning new skills alongside members from across our surrounding units.

🧡 A big thank you to everyone involved in making the weekend possible.
