Tarang Chawla brings his powerful call against violence to Bendigo, at a time when it’s never been more important to hear.

Tarang is the co-founder of Not One More Niki, a campaign to end violence against women and children, named in honour of his younger sister, who was murdered in 2015.

He is an inspiring speaker on a mission to affect change within communities, relationships and families. His story is unforgettable, as is his message for peace and equality.

We gratefully acknowledge funding support from City of Greater Bendigo.

We acknowledge the passing of our esteemed former Chief Librarian, Bev Porteous (1940-2026).

Serving with distinction for 32 years, from 1964 to 1996, Bev was a visionary leader who steered our library service through eras of historic transformation.

Her enduring legacy includes guiding us through the establishment of the Regional Library service in 1967, overseeing the opening of the new Bendigo Library building in 1984, and navigating complex council amalgamations in 1994.

Bev was a dedicated mentor to library staff and a passionate, lifelong champion of free public library access for thousands of patrons across central Victoria. She had a profound impact on our community.

Kyneton Library Manager Cathy Heenan said: “I often recall the time Bev came back from a meeting at the State Library raving about this thing called the internet and how she envisioned it being an amazing advancement for public libraries and how we operated.”

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bev's family, friends and colleagues.

(First portrait image of Bev shared here was taken by the Bendigo Advertiser, October 1984.)

Honours were rolled out at the historic Bridgewater Memorial Hall for one of the Loddon Valley’s most loved this month.

Community, friends and family gathered to pay tribute to the late children’s author, poet, educator and Dingee farmer, Lorraine Marwood, and her nationally-celebrated writing.

Lorraine’s friends and fellow writers Glenda Millard and Claire Saxby were in conversation with Bendigo editor Cecile Shanahan for the Goldfields Libraries/Loddon Valley Arts Trail event.
