Berowra Rural Fire Brigade Welcome to the official page of Berowra Rural Fire Brigade. We are a brigade in the NSW Rural Fire Service, staffed completely volunteers.

For up to date incident information refer to https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fires-near-me The Berowra Rural Fire Brigade has continued to grow and serve the Berowra Community since being formed by Hornsby Shire Council on 27th October 1943. The Brigade volunteers show tremendous community spirit and courage in protecting their local community from the threat of bushfires. These volunteers donate over a total of over 4000 hours of their personal time per annum in the service of their community. In addition, they play a critical role working in partnership with Fire Rescue NSW on the M1, the Pacific Highway and all roads in the local area, as a fire protection service during motor vehicle accidents and domestic and industrial fires and incidents.

We thought we would share this post from the CFA so our community members here in Berowra and surrounding areas can see the extremely dangerous conditions that an ember attack can bring during a bushfire.

This goes to show the importance of being prepared for bushfire here in Berowra, making the decision to leave early and ensuring you have completed a Bushfire Survival Plan.

As we all know in Berowra, we are one road in and one road out, and these are the conditions community members could be facing when leaving Berowra for a safe area.

🔥 TOTAL FIRE BAN: MONDAY 12 OCTOBER

A TOTAL FIRE BAN will be in place tomorrow, Monday the 11th of October, for the Greater Sydney Region.

EXTREME FIRE DANGER is forecast. The NSW Rural Fire Service advises residents to take action now to protect your life and property.

If you live in a bush fire risk area:

• Action your Bush Fire Survival Plan now.
• Know what you will do if a fire starts.
• Monitor fire and weather conditions throughout the day.
• Be prepared to act early.
• Do not wait for a fire to threaten your property before making decisions.

During a Total Fire Ban, you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or undertake activities in the open that cause, or are likely to cause, a fire.

Stay informed through the NSW Rural Fire Service, Hazards Near Me NSW, local radio and the Bureau of Meteorology.

Extreme Fire Danger means fires can spread quickly and be extremely dangerous. Take action now to protect your life and property.

🔥 Know your plan. Be prepared. Act early.

🚒 AT HOME DURING THE DAY? YOUR LOCAL RFS NEEDS YOU! 🚒

Are you a stay-at-home parent, work from home, or have some flexibility during the day?

Berowra Rural Fire Brigade is looking for local community members who might be available to volunteer — particularly during weekday and daytime hours when many of our members are away at work.

You don’t need any previous firefighting experience. Training is provided, and volunteering with the RFS is about much more than fighting fires. It’s a chance to learn new skills, meet some great people and give back to the community you live in.

You may have spotted our recruitment flyers around in a few spots around Berowra!

📱 Scan the QR code on one of our flyers to find out more and register your interest in joining the Berowra Rural Fire Brigade.

Whether you can give a little time or a lot, having more local volunteers available during the day can make a real difference when our community needs us.

Help protect your community, come and join the Berowra RFS crew! 🔥

Crews will be continuing the hazard reduction on Alston Drive and Turner Rd today. Take care in the area as trucks and crews will be working in the vicinity.

The NSW Rural Fire Service is planning a hazard reduction burn at Turner Rd in Berowra Heights, on Friday 25 September.
This important work will reduce accumulated bushfire fuel, strengthen protection for nearby homes and improve firefighting options should a bushfire threaten the local community. The burn will also be carefully managed to protect important environmental and cultural sites within the area.
Smoke may be visible while the work is underway, and nearby walking tracks may be temporarily closed until they are assessed as safe.

A few of our members are currently in the northern areas of NSW on a 5 day deployment assisting other rural fire districts to gain the upper hand on a few fires currently burning 🔥

So far it has been a great opportunity for our members to gain experience on crew leading and rural fire driving in fire impacted communities to assist with developing firefighting skills and leadership skills.

Our firefighters are expected to return home on Sunday.

As always, please take a moment to look at these photos to see how fire can impact bushland areas just like Berowra and remember to prepare your property for bushfire ahead of time and know your bushfire survival plan.
