Yesterday our Brigade was called to a pile burn at Meroo Meadow. They fought the large blaze with crews from Cambewarra Rural Fire Brigade and West Nowra Rural Fire Brigade and got it extinguished.

This is a timely reminder that a Fire Permit is required to burn during the Bush Fire Danger period in the Shoalhaven LGA, which runs from 1st of September to 31st of March.

You can obtain your free Fire Permit via the online RFS Guardian Portal and select β€œApply for a Fire Permit”.

For handy tips on carrying out a safe pile burn, please refer to the Standards for Pile Burning 2024 document.

The person responsible for the fire must ensure that all adjoining landowners are informed at least 24 hours before lighting the fire. In addition to the Fire Permit, you must notify the RFS. You can do this online via the Guardian Homepage by selecting β€œNotify of your planned burn”.

For more information on safe burning, visit our website: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare/farm-fire-safety/safeburning

If you have any questions or need further clarification or assistance, please contact our Shoalhaven District office on 4424 4424.

With summer fast approaching you should think about what will happen to your pets during a bushfire.
Check out the NSW government's website called Get Ready.
Make sure your pet is microchipped and registered on the NSW Pet Registry. It will help you find your pet if they get lost. Horses and larger animals will need specialised transportation plans.
As pets can become very nervous in the event of bushfire, the best advice is to move them early.

πŸ”΄ Emergency Warning – You are in danger. Act immediately. Fires may threaten suddenly and without warning.

Alerts can change quickly, so always stay up to date via Hazards Near Me NSW, local radio, and official NSW RFS channels.

FIRE PERMITS SUSPENDED – Sunday 20th September 2026
The Shoalhaven is forecast to experience HIGH fire danger conditions on Sunday 20th September 2026. As a result, all fire permits issued by the RFS have been suspended in the Shoalhaven for this time.
These conditions can create a real fire risk across our landscape. It's incumbent upon all of us to be cautious with the use of fire.
ONE EMBER CAN END IT - Embers from a fire can spread quickly and quite a distance, putting communities well away from the main fire at risk.

Burning embers can ignite any build-up of flammable
material around the home. Keeping your gutters clear is
essential for reducing your risk. The more you prepare
your home, the more likely it will survive a bush fire or
ember attack, even if you leave early. Learn more at www.
