Bingara NSW SES The Bingara NSW SES Unit (New South Wales State Emergency Service) is the local combat agency for floods, storms and tsunami.

03/11/2026

The Bureau of Meteorology have advised that thunderstorms are likely across the eastern half of the state today with the potential for severe thunderstorms in the highlighted area.

Severe thunderstorms bring the potential for damaging wind gusts (> 90km/h), large hail (diameter >2cm) and locally heavy falls leading to possible flash flooding.

Isolated high-end supercell thunderstorms are also possible in the red highlighted area, where giant hail (>5cm) and destructive wind gusts (>125 km/h) are concerns, if such storms develop.

Given the rain we have seen over the last week, a lot of our catchments are already wet, and excess run-off is a concern.

The NSW SES are asking all residents to take the time where possible to secure any loose items around your property, move vehicles away from trees and into cover and please make smart decisions on the road.

With any heavy downpours, localised flash flooding is always a concern, please never drive, ride or walk into or through floodwater.

Thanks everyone, please stay safe and remember if you do need the assistance of the NSW SES give us a call on 132 500, if your situation is an emergency remember to always call 000.

Advice

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to STAY INFORMED about predicted Minor flooding on the Gwydir:

- Low lying areas along the Gwydir River

You should stay informed by monitoring warnings issued by NSW SES on their website and page, listening to your local ABC radio station, and checking the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises a low-pressure system in western Queensland extends a trough towards the northern interior of NSW. This system is forecast to track southeast across eastern NSW between Friday and Sunday.

Inland catchments are relatively dry.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast across the Flood Watch area for the remainder of Friday through to Saturday, with locally heavy rainfall possible. There is some degree of uncertainty over the exact location and timing of the heaviest falls. Localised river level rises, and flash flooding are likely within the areas of heaviest rainfall.

This weather system has the potential to cause minor flooding in the Flood Watch area from late Friday into the weekend. Flood Classes (minor, moderate, major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by dangerous floodwaters:

❌Don’t drive in flood water ❌

Last night members from Inverell, swift water technicians from Bingara and Moree, and the Inverell VRA responded to a call regarding a ute in the middle of a flooded causeway near Coolatai.

Water markings on the ute suggest the water was well over 1m deep when the driver entered and the vehicle had been pushed partially off the road in the oncoming lane of traffic, despite a road closure sign and flood depth indicator.

Once it was confirmed that the vehicle was empty, swiftwater techs searched down stream for any sign of the driver, who was not found.

By the time Inverell 56 departed the water level had dropped to .4m.

It is reasonably rare for us to have this type of callout in the Inverell shire and the Qld registration suggest it may be a driver who is unfamiliar with local roads and crossings, although the flood markers should have been sufficient deterrent.
