Good biosecurity helps protect your birds and the wider community from H5 bird flu.
Bird owners and people transporting birds should:
- Keep bird areas, equipment and enclosures clean and disinfected
- Prevent contact between domestic and wild birds
- Protect feed, water and bedding from contamination by wild birds
- Quarantine new birds before introducing them to your flock or aviary
- Limit visitor access and ensure clean footwear, clothing and equipment are used around birds
- Avoid mixing birds at shows, markets or events and prevent contact with birds from other flocks
- Wash hands before and after handling birds or eggs
- Watch for unusual illness, sudden death, lethargy, coughing, nasal discharge, swelling or reduced egg production and report any
- Maintain a biosecurity plan and keep records of bird movements.
