The purpose of this page is to keep you up-to-date with Bolwarra, Bolwarra Heights, Largs, and surrounding areas related activities and events, and to share fire-related information. This page is managed by Bolwarra-Largs Rural Fire Brigade volunteers. Weโ€™ll do our best to respond to you within 1-3 business days. Mondayโ€™s Fire Danger Rating for the Lower Hunter area is ๐—›๐—œ๐—š๐—›, with a ๐—ง๐—ข๐—ง๐—”๐—Ÿ ๐—™๐—œ๐—ฅ๐—˜ ๐—•๐—”๐—ก in place, and permits suspended.

A Total Fire Ban means ๐—ป๐—ผ ๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€ in the council areas affected, including no welding, grinding, or spark causing activities in open areas.

The Lower Hunter area incorporates Maitland, Cessnock, Dungog, and Port Stephens LGAs.

This page will advise of the fire danger rating for the Lower Hunter area when the level reaches Extreme or Catastrophic, as well as Total Fire Ban days.

If there is no post regarding the FDR or Total Fire Ban, there is no heightened risk.

The Bushfire Danger Period starts on Thursday 1st of October for the Lower Hunter Area.

You will need a permit from the RFS prior to burning from that day onwards if you live in the Maitland, Cessnock, Dungog, or Port Stephens council areas.

๐Ÿ”ฅ The Bush Fire Danger Period is set to start on 1st October in the Cessnock, Maitland, Dungog and Port Stephens LGAโ€™s.

๐Ÿ“‹ A fire permit will be required when it starts. These are free and easy to obtain. Go to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au and apply. It is important you know the rules.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Notifications are still required minimum 24hrs to NSW RFS prior to burning

๐Ÿš’ Practice safe burning every time. Even experienced landholders should review safe burning practice, check the weather and be prepared to control the fire at all times.

A busy day for Bolwarra-Largs Brigade ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Monday 21st September saw Bolwarra-Largs members crew all three of our trucks to seperate incidents across the Lower Hunter Area.

Just before 1pm, Bolwarra 1 was paged to respond to a going bushfire in the Chichester area. With a crew of 5 onboard the members ensured a property was safe, and tracked fire progress through the area.

Around 230pm, Bolwarra Bulk Water was paged to assist with the Watch and Act level bushfire at Tomago.

Then, just after 330pm, Bolwarra 7 was paged to respond to a reported bushfire on Eelah Road at Mindaribba. Crews extinguished this fire with the help of local brigades.

Having all three of our appliances out at once is no small feat, with 11 members crewing our trucks.

Thank you to those local brigades that assisted with the fire in our area, as well as those we worked alongside further afield.

It is a timely reminder to maintain your property and create a plan coming into the fire season.
