TRL FISHERY CLOSES 30 SEPTEMBER 2026

Commercial fishers are reminded that no commercial fishing is permitted after the closure.

All catch must be landed to a licenced fish receiver and the catch reported to AFMA within 3 days of landing.

The TRL Fishery will be closed from 1 Oct - 30 Nov 2026. Please contact AFMA on 07 4069 1990 if you have any questions.

International Day for the Fight against IUU Fishing 🎣

Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing threatens marine ecosystems, coastal communities and the livelihoods of legitimate fishers. It’s a global issue affecting shared fish stocks, marine ecosystems and coastal communities.

AFMA is working to protect Australia’s fisheries and support a rules-based maritime environment by:
🐟 Strengthening monitoring, control and surveillance across the Indo-Pacific
🚢 Supporting fisheries enforcement operations and inspections

The Indonesian nationals pleaded guilty to illegally fishing in Australian waters at Darwin Local Court on Tuesday 31 March 2026.

❗Black teatfish fishing season 2026 is now closed ❗

Black teatfish reported catch as at 11:59pm AEST on 26 March 2026 is 19.7 tonnes.

The TAC Date for black teatfish has been determined as 11:59pm AEST on Thursday 26 March 2026.

Fishing for black teatfish is now CLOSED. Licenced fish receivers must STOP receiving black teatfish.

AFMA would like to thank fishers and fish receivers for their efforts this week.
