Batteries don’t belong in household bins.

Even one battery can spark a fire in a garbage truck, recycling facility or waste site.

If you're doing a spring clean, make sure any loose or unwanted batteries go to a safe battery drop-off point, not your household bin.

Find your nearest drop-off location at www.epa.nsw.gov.au/batteries

What a great day out!

Fire and Rescue NSW Station 236 Braidwood were just delighted to be part of the Braidwood Big Wheels Festival at Braidwood Showground.

Both appliances from station 236 participated and were joined by a restored, historic Fire Brigades of NSW truck.

It was such a well attended event and gave Braidwood Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters an
opportunity to meet lots of locals and visitors and get our fire safety message out to a wide audience.

Thanks so much to the organisers of this great event.

Last night crew from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 236 Braidwood were paged to respond to multiple buildings alight at Batemans Bay.

Both our appliances, Pump236 and Rescue Tanker 236 joined seven other Fire and Rescue NSW appliances and eight of our firefighters joined a team of over 30 to extinguish a fully involved motel.

Crews were on scene for some hours with great support from multiple local NSW Rural Fire Service brigades, NSW Police Force, NSW Ambulance.

Many thanks to our colleagues from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 428 Queanbeyan who covered Braidwood last night until we returned.

What do you guys actually do there at the fire station?

Training, training and more training. Firefighters are constantly polishing their skills so when we are called upon we can help those in need. 24/7

Yesterday, firefighters from Station 236 undertook a nighttime motor vehicle crash rescue drill. It was dark, cold and a light drizzle fell, which were perfect conditions because incidents occur at all times and in all weather. So we train under less than ideal conditions.

It’s one more way we prepare to look after everyone in our community.

Anytime. Anywhere.

And while we’re seeing a spring making itself know here in Braidwood.

It’s is a good time to clear out what's built up around your home.

Remove leaves and debris from gutters and cut back overgrown vegetation close to the house.

Keeping these areas clear can help reduce the risk as bushfire season approaches.

Spring cleaning?

Clearing clutter is about more than tidying.

Keep hallways, doors and windows clear so everyone can get out quickly in a fire.

Take a few minutes to check your escape routes while you're cleaning.
