Meals on Wheels Queensland Seasoned with Care. Meals on Wheels has had a place in the hearts and homes of Australians for more than 70 years.

For 70 years, Meals on Wheels has been part of Queensland communities, delivering meals, care, and connection to support independence at home. Helping frail older people and younger people with a disability and their carers stay in their homes where most are happiest, is at the heart of what we do. Meals on Wheels provides meals to suit a client's personal requirements and can accommodate special dietary needs and taste preferences. Everyday a friendly smile, a chat, a nutritious meal and knowing someone will drop by to say hello, changes the lives of many Australians and it's not just the clients who value this contact. Ask any of the 7,000 Queensland volunteers and they will tell you reaching out and making a difference in somebody else's day, makes theirs. Volunteers fill many roles from being drivers, delivering meals into people's homes, assisting in community kitchens or in transportation of clients to a community centre to enjoy a meal along with other social activities. Others may be able to provide office skills helping set up databases, writing newsletters, or preparing promotional flyers for events. No matter what an individual can offer, every bit of help adds to a happier and healthier community. While many retirees are active in our formidable volunteer family - and 'family' is what it becomes - the face of volunteering is as diverse as our clients. We have teenagers keen to do something for others, families who enjoy the focus of sharing a meaningful activity together, and business people who realise there is life outside the office. Chatting about local issues or discussing the latest book release may not be part of a volunteer's job description, but for a client that has very few visitors, it means a lot.

There’s a quiet sweetness to a Meals on Wheels delivery.

A knock at the door. A familiar chat. And Trish’s favourite treat, a slice of apple teacake, waiting alongside it.

But it’s never just about the food.
It’s the check-in that says someone thought of her. The conversation that brightens the room. The warm feeling that lingers long after the wave goodbye.

Because something sweet always comes with a visit from Meals on Wheels.

Thirty-five years side by side, making a difference in Bowen. 🤝

True community spirit isn't built overnight; it's woven day after day, year after year, by people like Sally and Allan McDonald.

For three and a half decades, this duo has been a familiar, comforting presence for Bowen Meals On Wheels, bringing warmth, nourishment, and a friendly face to local doorsteps.

Celebrating 35 years of selfless volunteering is something truly rare and special. Sally and Allan now take their rightful place in the Meals on Wheels Queensland Roll of Honour, an official tribute that permanently cements their service into our statewide history. 📜

Thank you, Sally and Allan, for your pure heart and unwavering dedication to your neighbours!

The best lessons aren't found in books; they’re passed down over a cup of tea, shared through old family stories, and felt in the gentle embrace of a grandparent.

Grandparents, nanas, pops, and senior mentors hold the heart of our families and communities together. They’ve spent decades building the world we live in, filling our lives with wisdom, warmth, and comfort.

Today is all about celebrating them. Whether it’s picking up the phone for a long yarn, sharing a meal, or dropping by for a quiet visit, let’s make sure the elders who shaped us know just how deeply loved they are. 💛

60 Years, 200+ Volunteers, Pure Bundy Spirit.

Did you know? In 1966, Meals on Wheels Bundaberg delivered its first batch of meals: just 11 plates served from a church kitchen!

Throughout six decades, Bundaberg Meals on Wheels has stood strong through major floods, expanded into new regions like Childers, and grown into a vital lifeline for hundreds of locals.

❤️ Today, it takes more than 200 dedicated volunteers to keep the wheels turning.

To the Bundaberg team, the hard-working staff, dedicated committee, and the over 200 amazing volunteers who step up week in, week out, we applaud you. You are the beating heart of your region, and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate this 60-year milestone with you!

Here’s to honouring our proud past and building an even brighter future! 🚗
