๐Ÿ”ฅThe Bush Fire Danger Period starts on Thursday 1st October 2026.๐Ÿ”ฅ

What does this mean?
โ€ข The BFDP is in effect until midnight 31st March, 2027. During this time, you WILL require a fire permit to burn. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

โ€ข Total Fire Ban (TOBAN) days may occur which means NO open flame is to be used on those days.๐Ÿšซ These are days of high/extreme fire danger where weather conditions align for potentially catastrophic fires to occur.๐Ÿ”ˆ

Fire permits can be obtained by clicking this link ๐Ÿ”— https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp?id=guardian_cat_item&sys_id=578b27b4c360b1104a9cdc311501313e

Install the Hazards Near Me app,๐Ÿ“ฑ so you can stay up to date with fire activity in the area and receive warning notifications such as those displayed in the image below.

๐Ÿ”ฅ KNOW YOUR FIRE DANGER RATING
Have you ever looked at the Fire Danger Rating and wondered what it actually means?

The Australian Fire Danger Rating System is used across Australia to tell us how dangerous conditions could be if a fire were to start.

The higher the rating, the more dangerous the conditions.
๐ŸŸข MODERATE โ€” PLAN AND PREPARE
Most fires can be controlled. Stay up to date and make sure you know what you will do if a fire starts.
๐ŸŸก HIGH โ€” BE READY TO ACT
There is a heightened risk. Be alert for fires in your area and make sure your bush fire plan is ready.
๐ŸŸ  EXTREME โ€” TAKE ACTION NOW
These are dangerous fire conditions. Check your bush fire plan, make sure your property is fire ready and be prepared to act immediately if a fire starts.
๐Ÿ”ด CATASTROPHIC โ€” FOR YOUR SURVIVAL, LEAVE BUSH FIRE RISK AREAS
These are the most dangerous conditions for a fire. If a fire starts and takes hold, lives are likely to be lost. Leaving early for a safer location is the safest option.
โšช NO RATING
No rating is issued when there is minimal fire risk.

The Fire Danger Rating isnโ€™t just a number on a sign โ€” itโ€™s there to help you make decisions.

Check the rating for your area each day, particularly if youโ€™re planning to travel, work outdoors or spend time in a bush fire risk area.

And remember, donโ€™t wait for a fire to start before you make your plan.

๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ”ฅ WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO IF YOU RECEIVED A FIRE ALERT?
During a fire, knowing what the warning level means can help you make decisions quickly.
๐ŸŸข ADVICE
A fire has started, but there is no immediate danger.
Stay up to date and monitor the situation.
๐ŸŸ  WATCH AND ACT
There is a heightened level of threat and conditions are changing.
Itโ€™s time to start taking action.
๐Ÿ”ด EMERGENCY WARNING
This is the highest alert level.
You may be in danger. Act immediately. Delaying could put your life at risk.
๐Ÿ“ฑ Download Hazards Near Me and set your Watch Zone.
Donโ€™t rely on just one source of information. During an emergency, keep an eye on Hazards Near Me, local radio, the NSW RFS website and other official emergency information.
And most importantly:
Donโ€™t wait for an Emergency Warning to decide what youโ€™re going to do.
Have your Bush Fire Survival Plan ready before you need it.

๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ”ฅ WHEN YOU LIVE ON A RURAL PROPERTY - YOUR FIRE PLAN NEEDS TO GO BEYOND THE HOUSE.
When you live on acreage or a farm, thereโ€™s a lot more to think about than protecting your home.
Consider:
๐Ÿก Your house
๐Ÿด Horses and livestock
๐ŸŒพ Paddocks and grass
๐Ÿšœ Machinery and vehicles
๐Ÿš๏ธ Sheds and outbuildings
๐Ÿ’ง Water supplies and pumps
๐Ÿš’ Emergency vehicle access
Make sure your pumps work, hoses are accessible and water supplies are ready to use.
Think about where dry grass and other combustible materials are around buildings, sheds and equipment.

And remember hot works can start fires.

Welding, grinding, cutting and other activities that create sparks or heat can ignite dry grass and vegetation.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Avoid hot works in hot, dry or windy conditions.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Never undertake hot works during a Total Fire Ban.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Clear flammable material from the work area.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Have water or appropriate firefighting equipment immediately available.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Never leave hot works unattended.
Living rurally means we all have a part to play in reducing fire risk.

๐Ÿด๐Ÿถ WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR ANIMALS IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE DUE TO A BUSHFIRE?
If you live rurally, your fire plan probably needs to include more than just the humans in your household.
Think about your:
๐Ÿด Horses
๐Ÿ„ Cattle and livestock
๐Ÿ” Chickens
๐Ÿถ Dogs
๐Ÿฑ Cats
โ€ฆand any other animals you care for.
Ask yourself:
โžก๏ธ Where will they go?
โžก๏ธ How will you transport them?
โžก๏ธ Do you have enough time and equipment to move them?
โžก๏ธ Who can help if youโ€™re not home?
โžก๏ธ Where is your nearest suitable destination?
โžก๏ธ Do you have food, water and medications ready?
Donโ€™t leave these decisions until there is a fire at your gate.
Not all evacuation centres can accommodate animals, so having a destination and transport plan in advance is important.

๐Ÿ”ฅ BRINGELLY โ€” ARE YOU READY?
Living in a semi-rural community means fire can affect more than just bushland. Grass fires can move quickly through paddocks, properties and roadside vegetation, and fires can change quickly.
Take some time this weekend to think about:
๐Ÿก Your home and property
๐ŸŒพ Your paddocks and surrounding vegetation
๐Ÿด Your horses and livestock
๐Ÿถ Your pets
๐Ÿš— Where you would go if you needed to leave
๐Ÿ“ฑ How you would receive emergency information
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ What your family would do and where you would meet
Most importantly โ€” have a Bush Fire Survival Plan and talk about it with your household.
Donโ€™t wait until smoke is on the horizon to decide what youโ€™re going to do.
Get ready now.

17/09/2026

๐Ÿก๐Ÿ”ฅGOT 10 MINUTES?
DO A QUICK FIRE-READY CHECK OF YOUR YOUR PROPERTY.
Walk around your home and property and have a look at:
โ˜ Long, dry grass close to buildings
โ˜ Leaves and debris in gutters
โ˜ Gas bottles and other flammable materials
โ˜ Wood piles, rubbish or other combustible materials
โ˜ Whether your hoses can reach the areas they need to
โ˜ Whether pumps and firefighting equipment are working
โ˜ Whether emergency vehicles can easily access your property
โ˜ Whether your property number is clearly visible from the road
For rural properties, access matters.
Your property may be difficult to find in smoke, darkness or during a fast-moving fire. A clearly visible property number can help firefighters locate you.
A few simple jobs now can make a big difference later.
Donโ€™t wait for fire season to arrive โ€” get started today.

Donโ€™t give embers something to burn.
Clear away doormats, wood piles, mulch, leaves and outdoor furniture from around your house to help prevent a bush fire from reaching your property.
A well prepared home is far more likely to survive a bush fire.

Looking for ways to keep your family safe if a bushfire comes your way?

Plough firebreaks around each paddock boundary to prevent the spread of fire.

Doing this will also prevent your fences from burning.
